Hello everybody,

I have this "White" brass tube chassis Cox Lola T70: is it a real White or a discolored yellow?

In the last two pictures the "white" Lola sits side by side to a pristine yellow one (always kept into its box):

Cox DID produce the Lola in white, but it is difficult to figure out if yours is a discolored yellow (since it shows  a bit of the color under the front valance), or a discolored white example.

Based on the color under the front valence, I'm thinking it is a faded yellow one.

The only way to "discolor" yellow plastic is to let the sun bleach it. Since the underside is the same color, I would suggest that the body was once white and the plastic aged by yellowing.

That is a good candidate for a "superdetail" job, Stefano!

PdL,

Were these cars ever offered in the US? I thought I knew of everything that Cox produced, but this one is new to me.  That chassis looks like it is made by the same company that made the stock car chassis they used in a RTR.

Steve,

Both the first version with stamped aluminum sidewinder chassis and blue body were offered as one of the two shows in the 1968 Cox catalog. The later version with inline nickel-plated tube chassis came in blue (rare color), yellow, purple (most common colors), and white.

Steve,

This car has been discussed numerous times here at Slotblog over the last few years, but here's a LINK to the LASCM website where the full story is related.

Yes, but the story needs updating as it is quite a few years old and does not show all the versions... one of these days I will have to get back to it.

Thank you, fellows, your experience is as usual invaluable.

The yellow spot under the front valence is due to a restoration attempt: it is a not very matching yellowish nail varnish.  :)

Also the windscreen wiper has been added to hide a crack.

Jairus, would you do?

Let's talk.  :)

Stefano,

Well... I was thinking about Chris Clark. He is a much better painter than I and needs the work. I, on the other hand, am booked solid.

But if Chris says no... then send it to me and I'll do it for you. No problem!
