OK, I am stumped. This is a 1/24 scale chassis I have never seen before??? ohmy.gif
The sleuths here will know in 16 seconds or less I am sure. Please tell me and explain the weird features?

P1110190.JPG

P1110191.JPG

Looks like it has metric 3 mm axle bearings at the back, and is missing its motor bracket.

Possibly:

1) German

2) Italian

3) Japanese

4) Martian or Mongoan

this is a first!

im guessing japanese, independent front axle with suspension weird. where does the bowed center strip of metal that touches the front axle go to?

and it looks like adjustable wheel base and it looks like you can adjust the stiffness of the susp separatly

but i really dont know anything :)

If YOU don't recognize it, Dokk, then I wonder if a true "craftsman" could have made it for himself(?).

Richard,

This is a very-well made, production part with stamped aluminum and steel part, not an amateur's hack job...  :)

A total mystery as we have never seen another! It is in the 1/24 scale and likely would have been made for a FT16D motor, if one considers the rear-axle height in relation to the motor's drive.

Unique looking chassis ! Is that a Cox front axle with acorn nuts?

The insulated screws are interesting. Makes me wonder if they were planning on a wireless transfer of power from the guide to motor.

"bowed center strip of metal that touches the front axle go to?"

Looks to me to be for loading pressure on the guide....?

Good luck..... has to be a fer'in chassis for sure....

Good point, Jairus!

P, does the curved spring touch the axle? Does the end of that piece slot into the brass L-shape that seemingly would push down on the guide shaft? And what material is the main chassis made of?

Hence, my wondering if it's the work of a "true craftsman".

Yes, it DOES look like that. Both pieces of bowed metal (spring steel?) seem to be for the use of custom-setting the pressure for a floating front axle and guide flag.

Again... perhaps a "true craftsman" at work/play (?).

Dokk, disassemble it and layout the bits... so we can get a better look.

Does it pivot at the rivets?

The WB is adjustable... no?

The center alum upright on the rear chassis section looks bent toward the rear. Is it?

The 'W' shaped spring maintains the ride height.

The single spring steel in the center controls the 'bite' and possible 'changes' the ride hight/spring rate at the same time. If it touches the brass guide post spring then the guide post may have had a 'coil' spring floating action.

Looks like a... post FT16D era chassis to me. If EBD only to mount to the missing motor bracket. Without the bracket???

:excl: Those are all guesses " I know nothing", Mr. Prez.

I set up a JK spring steel F1 front end very similiar to that only using piano wire for the springs. It did not make a winning car! :)

Not much help but the front axle looks like a Revell. A prototype?

Probably no help but the moment I saw it the "outrigger" style body mounts and the black finish it reminded me of a Unique brand stocker chassis ( which I know it's not ). Just throwin' it out there. Also, for some reason the axle area up front reminded me of a 1/24 Strombecker.

thats what i thought of the center spring. kind of a sping drop arm.

Could be some manufacturer's prototype.

Where did it turn up?

Prototypes are not made in production tooling, prototypes are hand built, not the case here. This is a production item, there is nothing hand-made on it. It was likely manufactured at the end of the 1960s, maybe as late as 1969-1970. The two holes at the base of the chassis were there to hold a motor bracket with two tapered, slotted machine screws similar to those on Dynamic chassis, but they are metric, which means this is NOT American or English.

Behind the brass piece on top are weird electrical connectors, more pictures will be taken ASAP.

Obviously this is quite a mystery and hopefully someone from the Old Continent or Japan will recognize it...

You think its that late? Looks pretty narrow to be from that period. I was thinking it looked more mid-'60s?

Could be. I am more thinking a bit later because of the general design.

The shape of the nose piece almost looks like ones off the Italian Mini Dream chassis, the anodized red one you've posted pictures of before, Dokk.

OK, From now on, "gun metal gray" will be called "XXX Metal Gray" and will be treated as a Swiss color, "neutral".  :D
