I added a pit box to one end of the drivers stand. One more will go on the other end. The braid is set at the same depth as the track so drivers can check the guide height without putting the car on the track. The button is to check the motor and or to spin up the axle to clean the tires of lighter fluid.

WOW! :shok:

Beautiful work a labor of love.

What is the footprint of the track?

Cheers

The foot print is 19 x 27 feet. Track length ( center line ) = 106 feet. Track surface is 24" wide 4.5" spacing.

FYI

I went over to a friends house to lay tape for his track rebuild project. His gains were a touch deep after cleaning them up so he went with the .010" VHB. Compared to the .005" VHB I used on my track, the backing pulled off much cleaner and seamed like it was easier to stick it to the track. It was feffinately easier to pull up/remove the .010" VHB from the gains in the areas where a goof was made. The .005" stuff seemed to tear apart more where the .010" would hold together as it was cut away from the gain.

That said, the .005" VHB I used holds the braid down extreemly tight. So I am guessing the .010" would be a bit better or have to be used on gains that might not have a super smooth finish to them.

I bought RTR JK21 cars with Hawk7 motors and 3/32 axle for the three guys who helped the most building the track. Sad to say these are way too much for them . I intend to have a holiday party with about 20 people at the end of the month. I was looking at putting together 4 Turbo-Flexs out of stock pile and using Parma 16d motors with Ultimate Indy bodies. I think this may well be more than party people can handle.

What motor would be good for such a car?

Oh, By-The-By. The track is now completed. Final pictures to follow.

Parma 16D motors will work fine. Just change the gear ratio to about a 7/31 and they will be able to handle them.

Here is the final image of the completed track. We hit it real hard this week with cleanup, touch up paint and setting up the track area. Seven of us ran it yesterday for 5-6 hours. Everything worked fine. The track is very fast and the corners are will challenge your trigger finger. We ran it in both directions. I think I like it better going from driver's right to left than left to right. It seems to have better flow. That said, no one could say they definitely like it one direction over the other so it must be pretty good both ways.

Today a second group of racers are coming over to do some testing.

You did a fantastic job!  You might want to put rubber mats in front of the driver stations (for those long test sessions).

Thom, good idea on the rubber mats. i will do that soon.

Rick, We ran for several hours again to day. The track is getting a little faster and both directions are within a tenth or two in lap times. I guess backwards, while a tic slower, forces more hard breaking from top speeds into the normal leadon and normal turn three. In the normal direction the braking is not as severe. Either way, only one person had an opinion that reverse was not as good.

Anyway, lots of fun. Now I am building cars and tickled to have a test track.

Mark, take a look at the Playfit line of motors.  They are much lighter than the 16d's for better handling and come in several RPM versions.  We have used the Playfit Cheetah for rentals and home track racing.  But they have even slower { Fox, Rabbit } versions.  Have fun with the track, makes me miss the King Cobra I had when I ran North Gallery Raceway in Erie, PA.

Copy, Thanks Dan.

Mark

I realize this is a very old thread now, by chance are you still running this track?  I am in MO also,

Ed

Yes sir we are still using it.

This year we will be racing on 3 of the 5 tracks shown on the site. This one (Slotobahn Road Circuit), Full Throttle Raceway & Few Feet Short Raceway.

2 races at each track, once in each direction. We can flip a switch to reverse the track without needing to swap braid around.

Our format is called "Team Challenge". The fastest and slowest qualifiers become team mates working the way to the middle forming the rest of the teams. Each lane is raced for 10 minutes by every driver. There is a Qualy, Team and Individual Driver winner for the day. The series collects points for Qualy, Team, Individual & Best Team Driver.

Please check out our web site, SERG
