Been thinking about a thread like this for some time, and a recent Facebook snag gives me chance to get it started.

The idea is to post interesting slot car print advertising, but not just the run of the mill stuff.

Wish I had a larger version of this...

Of course, Get Smart is a fav of mine, since I own a Sunbeam Tiger "kit", so I can't resist posting this pic as well. Yeah, I know it isn't slot car related...

This is Jo Collins, Playboy Playmate of the Year 1965, and the pink Tiger was one of her prizes.

Good idea, Greg - and one of my specialties, as you probably figured. Hmm, let me look in the archives and see what I have right off the bat.

Keeping with the Playboy theme, here one from '63 I think, and maybe even the back cover. Aurora was one of the few manufacturers with the resources to advertise in major market mags...

d1a.jpg

And this came from Cavalier, one of the dozens of Playboy imitators in the '60s.

d2a.jpg

I've already posted this one, but since it's another shoe-slot combo...

d3a.jpg

One from the French manufacturer Circuit 24 in 1964 ("Tintin" magazine) - one of the few slot ads with non-racecar driver celebrities. Johnny Halliday and Sylvie Vartan were the biggest French pop stars at the time. If you want to know who Harold Nicolas is, check out the Nicolas Brothers on YouTube...

Here's one from the "cheapo" school, in a period comic book:

d5a.jpg

Another Circuit 24 ad, but this time in English, since it was distributed in UK by Meccano...

That's wonderful, Greg; thanks for posting.

Does kind of look like a modern parody of an old style Popular Science ad though...

I've been saving vintage US slot car advertising images, mostly 1/24 but some 1/32, from Facebook for a while now. Most of these are scans posted by Roll Doll in Strongsville, OH, and are reposted here with his kind permission.

Greg,

Can you enhance the address at the bottom? I need to know where to send my $10.98.

Just realized that there's a similar older thread on slot car print advertising. I'll merge 'em together later today.

Great looking slot car body. Similar to Dynamic's Mirage.

Here's today's ad, a very early one offering what I believe is one of the first slot racing sets. Wish I had a date for this, guessing 1961-62. Anyone know?

Greg,

The Scalextric set came out in 1957, so this could have been as early as '58; by 1960, Scalextric had been sold to Tri-Ang (in '58 in fact), and they introduced the plastic-bodied cars with a different track. So it's definitely pre-'60.

Will check when I get back home...

Here's today's ad and well, it's a little different. It's not very visually stimulating and it's not even about a slot car.

But reading the text more than a half century after this ad was published had me howling with laughter. Wonder how long the Model Car Racing Association lasted or if it even ever existed?

Wonder how many Miniature Grand Prix Racing Centers were sold/leased? And was MGP really "the biggest in the business"?

Yes, that ad does not have an Aurora feel or look to it.

Never saw one of these. Anyone have one?

Or was this another one of those "vaporware" products, to use a much later term, that never reached production. Image shows a 1966 copyright.
