Help with wing car

I started out in this hobby about nine years ago, purchasing a Group 20 car. I'm not sure of the name of the track but the car was stupid quick. One day I went a little too fast and the car flew off the track and splat; no saving that. It was basically the end of the hobby.
Well, I bought another car; this one not sure what it is.
I'm just getting back into the hobby and was wondering if you can tell me what it is. I think it a Group 12. I was looking not to upgrade this car but to buy a new car but I don't know what to look for. I was looking at a lot of cars on eBay but don't know if the JK custom with Hawk 7 is faster.
Thanks.
Anthony

In order for folks to advise you properly, we really need more info.
Are you just playing around with your slot cars, i.e. just enjoying running them at your locals track(s), or do you plan to try to compete in organized slot racing?
Where do you race your slot cars?

If he lives on Long Island, he will likely end up at Port Jeff. That is wing car Nirvana. If he wants to race he will have to stay away from eBay...

Call Kenny at Slots-A-Lot, I know he could help you out with the motor that you have and you may need a new body and tires. He could also help you with a new car.
It will say 12 or 20 on the arm.

In fact, Jay and I stopped off to see Doug at the old place when we went to get his used track in Dix Hills last year.
What I missed was where Anthony lives; just didn't think look...

The stack length of the arm looks to be too long for a 12. Is it tagged?

In my opinion, the body needs to some work, like getting the diaplane back about 1/2 - 3/4 inches to the rear. Everything else looks like it would be a good car to play around with. Motor might be suspect, but for playing it would be fine.

It certainly is an eBay special. The motor looks old and in need of a refresh/blueprint. Looks like the arm has/is rubbing the magnets. Wonder how flat the chassis is? The body looks like a Peugeot which is way too much downforce depending on the track. Lastly, the chassis needs to be moved forward closer to the nose about .5" - .75".
Hope you didn't pay too much...

It looks like a Boxstock chassis with an O/S Vette body mounted way too far forward. The arm is too long for Gp 12.
If you want to see serious Wing car racing, visit Port Jeff this weekend for the Barnburner race.

Hello Anthony, (or is it Ant-Knee?)
Welcome to Slotblog and back the fun of slots. too.
Hang in with us and try not to get discouraged if the experienced guys put your stuff down. We all want you to run good and have fun.
I like the paint on the body and have a new one just like it. I don't know who the painter was as it is not signed only dated 2002. A true pro painter.
That is wing car Nirvana. If he wants to race he will have to stay away from eBay...
W.J.,
Is Nirvana the name of the chassis, body, RTR?
Is it tagged?
Ditto... it should have a little white 'Group' ID tag between one of the poles epoxied to the windings.
If not look closely for any engraving on the metallic part of the motor poles. If none of the above it could be an 'outlaw 16' arm in there.
It may have taken a 'wall shot' as the magnets do not appear to be 'centered' in relation the armature.

It does look to be mount too far forward but it does have a 'heavy' motor in it.

What's too much? Fun can be priceless.

What HalfFast said. If you are near Port Jeff you will learn so much at an event like the Barnburner just hanging around and maybe help out by putting cars back on the right lanes (marshaling).
Then go back on an off night when it's not so crazy and put some fresh tires on it and play. I bet that car will be just fine to start out with, if not you will have qualified coaches to help you get it straightened out.
Enjoy.
BTW, does anyone know who the painter was?

I'm putting a link in the description for a YouTube vide of the track I was on; this is not me or my car this is the best way to describe the track. The body I bought at a track that has moved away from my area but I did buy it separately.
The tires are brand new, just bought them yesterday and that's why there some oil on the wing. The second link is like the track I raced on nine years ago.
Also I am a little competitive. I go there to race whats on the track, I will race but I like haveing a fast car

What are Am G12, Pro G12, Am 115, Pro 115? I know Group 12. How fast are these cars?
I just have to say maybe the car ain't a rocket but after the car gets warmed up it has the best smell ever I never smelled a slot car motor like it. LOL maybe it's overheating.
Next time I race it I will make a video.

Not 100% sure, but I think the painter was a Floridian who no longer paints commercially. His name excapes me at the moment, but if it comes back, I'll let you know.
The guy I'm thinking of used to paint all Lee Gilbert's Eurosport bodies.
Possibly Jim Bernard, who passed away. Nice, nice guy and a terrific painter.
What are Am G12, Pro G12, Am 115, Pro 115? How fast are these cars?
Diffrent slot car racing classes as defined by the USRA, divided into Amateur and Pro driver's division. The USRA rules can be found HERE.
How fast are they? Group 12 and International 15 are roughly the same speed, but are slower than the faster classes such as Group 27 and Group 7 (Open).

Regarding the body painter ..
I received a PM that it might have been a Mr. King from FL. who sold premounts in quantity available to retail shops. Not sure if it was through distribution.
Sure is/was nice work.

I highly recommend you stop by Port Jeff before you buy any more used stuff off ebay. First of all, buying at the raceway helps to ensure they keep their doors open, and secondly they will be more willing to help when you have issues with what you buy there.
For that car you already have, probably just a new good motor and proper set-up is all it needs.
BTW: they have a major race going on this weekend (the BArn Burner), so it's a great time to stop by and see competitive racing going on, just don't expect to get on the king track

The race this weekend at Port Jeff, their annual Barn Burner race, is one of their biggest races of the year. Many of the big name racers from the US and surrounding countries will be there. Likely Doug and his staff will be involved in running the races and supporting their visitors. However, if you are free you should go and watch. Like John said above, most guys interested in racing stay away from eBay. Of the 3 listings you posted, they seem over priced for used up stuff; not worth the cost. Doug may have some used stuff in the counter that would be much better. He will also have new stuff, such as a Koford 12 "Ready To Run" motor, which is a better place for you to start. I am also certain Doug and his guys also build and sell "Ready to Race" cars for any price range.
Quit looking at eBay and save your money until you make that stop at Port Jeff... You will be happier in the long run.
