Although I can't comment on how good those cars may be as I haven't raced wing cars since the early 90's, I do want to stress how important it is to support your local raceway. So buying from Port Jeff is maybe another $20 or so? Isn't that worth it to help ensure you'll have a place to go play with your new toy? Plus SCC doesn't tell you how much the shipping cost is until you actually commit to the purchase...that's not a fair business practice IMO. Chances are the cost difference will be negligible.
If you insist on buying mail order, that's your business, but I won't help with that when you have a raceway right there you can be buying from.

Anthony if you want a place to race your cars you need to support the raceway like John says. Go there when there is not a big event going on and I am sure you will find what you want at the price you want to spend. If you just want to play there is used cars that will be just fine and at least you will know who it comes from when you get it locally. I suggest if you want to play for hours like you stated you get something other that a wing car. Try a retro car with a JK retro Hawk motor--much more fun IMO!!!

Also don't go whining to your local raceway when your mail order car needs fixing. If you don't support him where are you going to race when he's gone!

Anthony,
On evil-bay it is the same as anywhere else. Buyer Beware. If you just want to fool around and use the cars as toys then go ahead and try a cheap car on Evil bay. Most of what I have seen on there is 15 year old stuff that is non competitive today. But if you are not racing then go for it. The cars may need to be completely gone over before they can be used. Motors should be disassembled and cleaned before any power is put to them. Don't pay big money on anything there. That way you have little to lose if it ends up being a pile of bent up crap.

Hold up Anthony!
We are trying to help you ..... AND the hobby.
How the hell do you expect us to advise you on what YOU want if you don't even know yourself?
Reset:
Take the car you show in the first post to your local track, if it runs, then Run It! If it doesn't run let them tell you what is wrong with it.
That is a car that is already too fast for you. Going out and buying another and not knowing anything about these cars is a waste of your or your dad's money.
If you insist on a 'new car' then buy the most expensive one ... it will be the fastest you can buy until you smash it up.
Here I picked one for you-
Koford "Ultra Beuf Express" w/ MickA Kelly Hybrid B20 H.P.! #KofordMAHy20RTR
Koford Ultra Beuf Express-Gr20 - Ult Beuf Express-Gr20 w/can, EB & axle bearings 224.95 224.95

Anthony,
Try some cars with out wings first. You learn how to drive these and wing cars are a breeze. PJR runs a flexi class running built 16Ds. The Retro cars are also a lot of fun. Wing cars are fast but it has always been a race of dollars. Do you plan on racing?

A new Koford ready to run group 12 wing car (Box Stock) for about 150.00 - 192.00 would be a safe choice. Then maybe get some spare rear tires.
Alpha 611WR-M (or similar)(about 10.50). This should make the car run cooler and faster. The Koford Wing Car Group 20 ready to run car (150.00 - 192.00) is also reasonably priced. The Group 12 car will handle better. The Group 20 will run a bit faster in the straights.

PJR runs Box 12 races in spray glue. That would be my choice.

Yes. Then later you could upgrade the car with a Hi-Speed pre-mount body if you wanted.

Yes. Group 12 is faster than a Super Wasp.

You also have to remember that these motors will wear out eventually and have to be rebuilt and the arm rebalanced. I would go with a known used motor that has already been run, and has been rebuilt by a pro. That way you know you have a good motor and arm to start with, and it should last a little longer than a new one. I have box motors that I built and ones that I have had made for a specific race. They ranged from $90 to $160. The more the money the faster they are in my case.

Anthony, they should be able to change out a motor in like 1 minute. Its really easy, when practiced.

AntKnee,
From your PM I understand why you don't want to send the car, so lets go with this option:
Order this motor at port jeff and have them install it.

This is as fast as you can go for the least amount of money and start to build a relationship with the owners at your local track.
Hope that helps.

Anthony wrote this in post #1.
"I was looking not to upgrade this car but to buy a new car but I don't know what to look for."
Also he asked me using the PM system about new cars. And what cars would be good to look at.
