Hi,I started out in this hobby about nine years ago, purchasing a Group 20 car. I'm not sure of the name of the track but the car was stupid quick. One day I went a little too fast and the car flew off the track and splat; no saving that. It was basically the end of the hobby

Do you still have this broken bent up car?

AntKnee,

From your PM I understand why you don't want to send the car,

Hope that helps.

If he does maybe Bob could fix it up and get it running again.

And that, gentlemen, is an example of the texting generation's version of English.  Also, note that the level of grammar and syntax from post 1 to the latest seems to indicate different folks at the keyboard.

But aside from all of that, Anthony... the guys at Port Jefferson will not steer you wrong.

Looking cool does not make it fast or make it handle. We on the west coast have always found the viper to be the best for boxstocks, and our $100 cars. I have tried (or should I say Jeremy Marquette) has tried a lot of different body types, and the Viper was always the best for speed and handling. Everything technical in my (so so) race program was based on Jeremy's findings, and anyone who knows him, will agree. I have lots of his stuff still in my box, although its all collecting dust, seeing So Cal USRA is in a rut, and does not race non-cobalt classes, except the $100 cars.

Antknee,

One is 'ribbed' and one is not.

Your spider body is ribbed on the top.

I wouldn't change it out ... just have your shop guy move it back some. The other body has less "down force" and would not handle as well.

The only difference is you will probable come off the track more often as it would be a little harder for you to drive with less down force.

The small increase in speed with the white body .. in relation to your current driving skill level would be un-noticeable.

Anthony, when you get serious, and want to race, practice on black and red. Most good handling box stocks will not come off on the other colors. I have had some cars race at 2.3 lap times on BPR's track and the car is stuck.

Btw Chubby is a world champion and a world class racer and a real nice guy. That king at PJ is real swoopy and fast it's what some of us call a punch bowl.

I'm glad you finally got a chance to visit during a quieter time and talk with Chubby and Doug.  I had a feeling they could offer something you would have fun with at a reasonable price.

You should stop by on March 1st..we'll be running retro cars there that are just as fast as the one in your video, but no aerodynamics...60's Formula one cars and GT coupes.  You just might find them interesting....but you do have to drive them, they're not full throttle all the time.  :D

Welcome to the world of slot cars! :D

Good boy :D ...

:yes3: ... now you can get the new Viper body AND a Red Bull.

IMO ... with wings the 20 will drive just as good as the 12, just faster if you stay on because it will hit the "wall' harder.   :scare:

:umnik2:  Todays lesson,

Faster = more downforce.

I think 20 cars of yesterday are about the same speed of the group 12 cars of today. JMHO
