The team of Daren Toman is a total class act, cars, uniforms, pit... the whole package. 'The Most Professional' appearance award is in order.

Plus, at the risk of a selfless plug... he has run WireGator product on his FCR/NRS car.

Also take note of his 'splicers scissors'... from experience they are a very handy tool to have on the bench.

Thanks for all the great pics, Greg.

I noticed in one of the videos Howie hardly moves when he is racing. Does he channel his little slot car driver? LOL.

Howie has the ability to leave his body during a race... sometimes for days at a time. No one really knows where he goes, or how he does it... but it does end up affecting the outcome of his race... and most times it's not good!

Here's some more candid shots from Friday night after the GTC races were finished and from Can-Am qualifying today.

A pleasant surprise was this visitor who arrived after the races ended on Friday night: Parma's head honcho Mike MacDowell.

I eavesdropped on this conversation and Mike was advising Steve Deiters to "Just take a hike, Steve. These guy are fast and you know you couldn't drive a slot car worth a darn when you were half as old as you are now..." LOL! To Steve's credit, he doesn't seem to have been offended by Mike's brutal honesty.

One of the traditions at the R4 is for all the racers in attendance to sign one of the event posters. Here's the 2014 signature poster in progress.

poster.jpg

And of course, just because the day's races were completed it didn't mean everyone went home or back to their hotels. Here's a bunch of dedicated racers testing and tuning for the next day's Can-Am battles.

fri.practice.1.jpg

L-R: Steve Ploskunak (the newest member of the FCR-NCS BoD), Howie Ursaner ("Damn, that lap seemed better than a 5.2..."), Greg Krumnow, Dan Ebert, Jason Echelbarger, Bud Bartos (designer of the original Parma Flexi-Kar chassis, in case you didn't know), and Cap Henry. Awaiting their three-minute practice stints are Rick Bennardo Jr and "Sano" Dave Fiedler.

Pics from Can-Am qualifying earlier today.

For practice purposes, the Can-Am racers were divided into two groups and each group qualified separately as well. Here are a couple shots of the cars staged for their qualifying runs.

More detailed pics of the chassis will be available once Bill Fulmer gets his tech table documentation shots uploaded and linked to this subforum.

R-Geo's Rick Bennardo (also known this weekend as the "King of the Bs") trying to squeeze out a "hair" lap.

martin.q.2.jpg

TN's John Martin looks faintly disgusted at his Q run, while Jessica McMasters looks unimpressed as well. LOL!

noose.jpg

Serial virgin Lexan-despoiler Joe "Noose" Neumeister has assumed his "qualifying" power stance, while Bill Fulmer is either urging him on or attempting to stand like Noose, too.

Thanks, Mark.

For some reason, this has been the most enjoyable R4 of the four or five of them I've attended! Lots of fun and laughter and some truly spectacular Retro racing.

And tomorrow promises more of the same!

Some candids and grab shots from Sunday morning at the R4/7...

old&new.jpg

The old and the new. L to R: Elijah Kondrath, Jason Echelbarger, Ryan Bruce, Aaron Ploskunak, and Steve Ploskunak.

shadow,rutti.jpg

Dave Smierka and Al Rutti discuss the finer details of chassis scratchbuilding.

radisich,deiters.jpg

Chris Radisich and Steve Deiters reviewing the life of Denny Hulme and Kiwi racing in general.

RDF1chassis.jpg

Bob Appelle shows Jason Echelbarger (I think) two of Rick David's gorgeous F1 chassis.

oldbox.jpg

Jim Nolen bought this slot box and he's been using it since then. The Tri-State USRA plaque in upper left is from 1985-86, almost thirty years ago! Of course, the box itself was probably something like fifteen years old when Jim purchased it.

deiters,davisconv.jpg

They say fighter pilots can't even talk without moving their hands. Seems like the same situation may apply to slot racers, too!

daren.pits.jpg

Daren Toman readies his F1 car in his immaculate pit area.

cap,matt.jpg

If Cap Henry and Matt Bruce are starting to share their tips and tricks with each other, there might not be any reason to keep holding big Retro races... just shipping 'em both a trophy and forgoing the races will save everyone a lot of time and effort. LOL!

They both look like they're trying to understand what Eric Gehrken is talking about, as I often need what he says broken in layman's terms. LOL!
