Raisin,
I agree with that ruling because it sounds like the "decorations" were part of the chassis and exceeded the 1.625" max width rule.
Dom's design and mine are within that max width, so I think it's not the same situation. The IRRA® rules do allow for such decorations but it can't be part of the frame.
BTW: it's unlikely I'd build another like this from scratch. Sculpting all that 1/16" brass was a PITA and I'm still cleaning up the grinding dust. Next time I will buy the kit and enjoy the shininess!
Also BTW: I respect the IRRA® taking the step of registering the trademark but I don't have the mark available on my Android keyboard. Would this © serve?

What is required in hosting or being considered to host a IRRA® Premier Event?

Keep in mind too guys that the four IRRA premiere races have been around for 10+ years and came to be shortly after Retro started to gain momentum (10-12 years ago). Putting travel aside, what makes an event a Premiere event?
Here's my opinion. Raceway with good inventory, good clean track power, a smooth track, and of course plenty of pit space. After that it is about creating a draw. What will bring people in from outside the state/region? Discount on hotels if ___ number of rooms are booked ____ weeks before the event. Local food/activities for those that might bring families. Maybe a meal voucher if you pre-pay entry fee's ___ weeks before the event. Obviously the bigger the turnout the more successful the event can be. Lots of ideas to promote the event just a matter of which one's work the best for the venue.
Personally I want to get to the Southern Rumble, Checkpoint Cup, Sano, and R4 some day but I know it won't be this year. Two Premiere events are my limit for the moment but we will see what next year brings.

The current "major" races, as Dom mentioned, have been around for 10+ years. Retroplaooza and the Fall Brawl were originally regional events, it's only after many years that they became destination races. I went to the first Southern Shootout many years ago. The raceway it was held at closed down shortly afterwards (and it was lightly attended). IIRC correctly they ran one the next year at a different raceway, and that was it.
Bottom line is that for a race to become a Premier event, it has to have proven itself to have staying power. The midwest and NY metro area have very large, very competitive racing groups, that's why they have developed into the events they are today. If someone in the southeast wants to have an event on par with the four major races, they'll have to start small but keep the momentum going. That seems to be the biggest stumbling point in that area.

This has been asked before and, unfortunately, was not addressed.
In all honesty, there is not a list of standard 'Premier Event' requirements.
Speaking only for myself, and not for the rest of the BoD, I want to see a that a raceway has demonstrated the ability to hold a 'big' event, i.e. to have been able to hold a big race with 30-40 entries (or more) in a well-organized and professional manner.
The basic infrasructure needs to be in place: a decent track with no 'foibles,' a functioning lap counter and printer, a PA system, and sufficient raceway staff to service the event. Plenty of parking and pit space, too.
Proper communication needs to be in place, with good promotion of the event well in advance and before, during, and after the event, including a full race report after the event concludes.

A reminder of the rules in the case of an emergency tire change;
"Should a hub/tire be damaged, the racer is allowed to change it under the green.
The car will be inspected by the tech director at the end of that heat/stint.
The tire used to replace the damaged one must meet the minimum legal diameter for the class raced."

A couple questions just to clarify;
1) Must the change be done under green and work stopped if the heat ends before finishing that tire change?
2) Is only the wheel/tire that is damaged to be changed, or can you replace with a matched set of tires?

In response:
1) Must the change be done under green and work stopped if the heat ends before finishing that tire change?
Must be done under the green, may continue during the end of the heat but must be teched before resuming racing. Thus, the tech may wind up being done under the green.
2) Is only the wheel/tire that is damaged to be changed, or can you replace with a matched set of tires?
Only the damaged wheel/tire is to be replaced.

Don't they straighten bent hubs anymore? At one time, there was a variety of straightening tools that were used while the tire remained on the car.
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

If you find a bent or broken wheel during the change of lanes when can work be done, only after the start of the next heat?

Work can be done during lane change then brought to tech under the green.

I have a question regarding body braces on Stock Cars, are the body braces allowed to be wider than 3 inches at the top as long as where they are attached to the chassis meet the 3 inch maximum?

I have a question on Retro stocker scratchbuilds.
Is it legal to make your own guide tongue out of K&S brass plate for a scratchbuild if it is within the 1 inch width x 1.5 inch length rule.
This part would be put on top of front nose plate.
Thanks,
Marc

I have not been able to purchase a Nean Chaparral yet and I just found out at a race this past weekend where to buy some of the other approved bodies.
The IRRA Bod has put together a great set of rules and I enjoy building and racing Retro but the commercially available rule has to big of what I will call a grey area. Tires front and rear, bodies, guides weighted and whatever, It reminds me of wing racing in the 80's. You go to a event and you think you are well prepared and there are racers there with stuff you didn't even know about.
Just my 2 cents, and anyone who knows me knows I don't like to bitch.
