I'm not into the door stops either, or HO, or 1/43, or 1/32, but they're all slot cars, and I'm looking forward to reading the first edition.

Got lots lined up for the 2nd and 3rd issues already so keep your eyes open for some great stuff ahead.
Pete, I'm not saying that the door is totally closed on any sanctified racing series including "door stops".
As long as the article is submitted with a viewpoint that's both interesting and beneficial to the reader regardless of their skill level or knowledge of the subject.
Photos HAVE to be high resolution and sharp looking with plenty of light. Otherwise, don't bother.
Race reports are really only interesting to the racers involved and better suited to the forums or facebook where they can be quickly forgotten.
But a really in-depth look into a racing series/sanctioned event might be a good read.
I look forward to your submission.
But don't EVER tell me to take a time out... dude!

Jairus, will the mags. be offered on news stands, book stands like the ones found in grocery stores? Basically, will they be available without someone subscribing to obtain ?

So how do i get a mag or subscribe?
#55
Posted 23 November 2014 - 10:58 AM
Subscription service will be set up same as MCM out of Denver Co. No details yet.
Gregg is also contacting various online slot car parts houses to see if they will carry the mag. PCH has already volunteered to ship internationally.

I'll never mention it again.
What length (i.e., word count) would you be looking for in a piece describing a "local option" sort of series reflecting regional tastes and opinions?

Also want to subscribe to this magazine. As long as it covers slot cars, no matter what genre, I'm interested because all it can do is benefit the hobby. I won't have a book store close to me that will handle it (nearest B&N is over 20 miles away), so a subscription is going to be my best bet.
I race wing cars too, but only Group F cars because you can build the whole car for under a "C" note and be competitive. Now that I have my arm out of the sling, I'll be able to build more retro stuff, and the new mag, as well as Slotblog, will give me some ideas.
Go for it, Jairus

Word count? At this point I don't have one.
Depends on the subject and the message.
Historical information always, along with a brush of technical explanation are necessary because we have to assume that most readers are not always "up to speed".
So I guess I would have to hear a synopsis first.

Great! It will be nice to show off the Art & Craft side of slots again. I'll give my local bricks and mortar Hobby Shop a heads up.

I guess I better put my two cents in… but I want change.
And no, I don't take checks…
Jairus and I talked and dreamed about doing a slot car magazine since 2006. He took me, or rather let me drive the car all the way down to Buena Park for a race or two, and I was hooked!
I love all slot cars, yes, even HO.
To me, they are moving model cars.
What put the flame under my okole (rear end) was the gorgeous red Ferrari 250 GTO that Jairus built with that brass chassis online in some forums.
The timing was perfect.
Model Cars had just turned 15-years-old, I need a new Ferrari, and the wife says there's a new line of Jimmy Choo shoes she wants.
Just kidding, of course. We did make 15 years in October though.
Slot Cars Magazine will be published six times a year.
Cover price will be $6.50
Subscriptions will be up on the web site soon.
I am still waiting for the legal/paper work to get everything done.
I am also writing a book, in real time, on how to start a magazine.
It's going to be a step-by-step guide. Everything I have done to get this magazine printed will be in the book.
Everything
Every form, email, letter, application, who to contact, what to do, what to get.
Never before has there been something like this done.
There are books on starting magazines or newsletters, but never has there been a step-by-step guide.
We'll see how it goes, it should be interesting, I hope!
The Model Cars Magazine dealers/hobby shops should have received their letters by now, and I am working on the dedicated slot car shops/retailer lists now.
If you have a local slot car shop near you, that you think may want to carry the new magazine, please have them contact me, gregg@slotcarsmag.com, or call the Denver office, 303.296.1600.
I think the first run of the mag will be 5,000 copies
There will be a digital version, a FULL HIGH RESOLUTION copy, available also.
I have to work out the bugs in the securing of the digital file.
I have to protect the file, so that it can't be shared, emailed, etc.
Digital copies should be cheaper, I think $4 would fair, thoughts?
Anyone charging full price for a digital version, that IS NOT HIGH RESOLUTION, is cheating you.
I hope this explains most of the new magazine.
If you have any questions, email me, or post them here.
I'll try keep an eye on this post.

Yes, thanks, Matt.
As with Model Cars, I will be doing the ads for Slot Cars as well.
Like I said, I need that new Ferrari (no worry, it's 1/43 scale...)
I have rate cards, flyers, etc. that I can send out.
Also, we are looking for writers, who can take real gooder pictures.

Gregg I got it! I figured it to be like "a penny for your thoughts". Not a lot for such "valuable" info. I would also like to mention that I think it's a great idea that the new mag will be written so that a newbie can understand. That's the kind of thing that will gain interest rather than run people away from the hobby. Can't wait for issue #1 to become available, a subscription would have made a nice X-mas present.

Yes, Jairus, you will be paid in funny money.

Glad we came to this agreement.

I am so looking forward to this.

Hi Gregg,
I saw this from Jairus, and my ears perked up:
"that's what we pay proof readers for...."
I already offered to do some proof reading pro bono, but if y'all are planning to pay people to do it, well.....
"You guys really missed it on this one

I didn't miss it, Gregg, It stood out to me as intentional and it was funny
I wish you guys great luck in the mag and I'm ready to subskibe to it now !

I'm really looking forward to this magazine. Greg publishes the best magazine currently dedicated to model cars. If you do any scratch building or model kit/slot conversions I would give Model Cars a look.
