Id've just had it shipped to Georgia. Probably expensive. But considering possible breakdowns and delays getting repaired... but what the hey, there should be plenty of spares along the way, right?

Don't forget a car cover. Not only to protect it from the elements but to hide it from the less desirable elements of the human race. I laugh when I see trailers in the parking lot of hotels clearly displaying the contents. "Harley Davidson" on the sides is like saying "Steal Me".

I have a feeling that if you have any problems at all with the car they will be minor. If it wasn't a good car there wouldn't be so many of them still running. Like Sam said, it's the human race you need to worry about.

I wish you good luck with your trip, Greg. The car is a great looking car and looks very original. Driving the car from the Northwest is really cool, and I'm glad it will help you accomplish one of your bucket list items. I envy you for being able to do so.

 

I can remember my father telling me many, many years ago about a Model A he had in his younger days and him telling me it was the most reliable car he ever had in his life, that he drove it all over the country with no major problems whatsoever. I wish you the same luck that he had with his.

 

Keep us posted on your adventure, and take plenty of pictures and movies to go with it.

Anyone remember Peter Egan's article in Road and Track, oh, like 20-30 years ago, about driving a Model T from Wisconsin to California? One of his best.
 
Back before R&T became a magazine of road tests of cars you cannot afford to buy.

We're still working on that, Paul. My best man is literally one of the best-traveled Classic car guys in the US and I'm meeting up with him tomorrow to get his advice. He'll know the best route to take, without question.

Good luck on your trip. Many Model As went coast to coast back in the '30s. Of course at that time there were parts aplenty and service was easy to find. Also the two-lane roads were full of cars running 50 MPH, not 70-80.    

It can still be done, though. A lot of the Model A people do drive several hundred miles to national shows. At one of the car cruises we go to, there were four A Models from Ohio. We were 200 miles from their home. They drove west to Indiana, then back east to Charlotte (I believe) for the National MARC summer meet.
 
For the record, the first car I restored was a '30 Tudor (back in 1973) that I painted Chicle and Copra, just like your car. Went from that car to a '30 roadster body I got from North Dakota. Reworked that body and painted it Stone Brown and Stone Sand. When I got it done, I pulled the tudor body off and put the roadster body on. That was a decent driving car. I also had '40 hydraulic brakes which made it not original, but much better to drive.  
 
Through the years I've done lots of cars, but the last old one was a '34 Vicky (Downs body), 350 Chevy, auto, PS, PW, air. It's been my fun hot rod for 26 years now. I do also have a 427 Chevelle for when I like gear shifting and hot rodding.

One thought... catch Rt. 66 somewhere along your route (I would not be surprised if you thought of this already). 

 

And just east of Tulsa, OK, along the old route is the Darryl Starbird Museum. I went past it on a recent business trip, but didn't really have time to go see it.

If we go through Tulsa, Doug Azary has already arranged for us to visit the plant where Glen Pray built the Cord and Duesenberg replicas, so there's a chance we might, John.

Book or a few bigger articles are a real possibility, Ron. Will not be taking enough video to do any kind of serious filmwork.

 

I am certainly hoping it will be as enjoyable as you suggest; that's certainly the plan and why doing such a journey has been on my bucket list even before the term was invented.

If you could stop in a town or city with an airport every night I'm sure they would let you park your car in a hanger for a small fee, especially if you told them what you are doing.
