Big congrats to Cap and Steve.
Extra kudos to Mike Panko on his terrific finish, and running fast lap of his race, using a pretty unique car.

I really like seeing this. Kind of a warm and fuzzy to see the kids do good.

Will, how about posting some chassis photos of your car here? Or is its design supposed to be "super secret"?

Saturday is the most eagerly awaited day at the R4, because it's when IRRA®'s premier class, Can-Am, is contested.
There are a number of new racers arriving who, either by choice or not, were not able to come race on Friday. Tech and practice is in progress and we're hoping to exceed the 57 entries that were present for the GTC classes yesterday.
Pit space is at a serious premium, with racers crammed into every corner of the room.
Some assorted candid shots taken this morning...
Popular racer Gary Adams made it in for Can-Am.
Well-known track owner Mark Kitto, of Mark's Model World in Canton, OH, (on the left) helps out by marshaling the finger during practice. Since I see him the the tech line, he's racing, too.
The always-tough racer Al Rutti is in the house. Al has had great success at previous R4s.
The tech line extends along the wall behind the drivers. No one is grinning because they know they have to content with the always-picky Tech Nazi, Joe "Noose" Neumeister.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

A real sad moment at the R4 has just occurred, when it was announced that Jay Kisling passed away about an hour or so ago. Mike McMasters asked for, and received, a moment of silence in memory of Jay, whom Mike termed a "fierce competitor", as well as for Manta Ray Price, to whom this year's R4 is dedicated.
A bit of a bummer at the start of Can-Am qualifying, but we know that both of them would want us to continue on to have a great day of racing.
As a reminder, Ray Price's main slot car box (he had ten of them!) full of his best Retro cars and lots of other great stuff is being raffled off later today. There's still time to purchase tickets for the drawing, which will be held later today before the Can-Am Semis are held. Call (404) 610-4524 or PM Cheater and I'll tell you where to send your money. Best not to call the raceway as they're a little busy running the event right now...
If you need any encouragement to participate in the Manta Ray raffle, at the present time only about two dozen tickets have been sold, so the odds of being the winner are way, way better than your local lottery.

Qualifying for Retro Can-Am is in progress.
TQ as this is being posted is Mike "Raisin" Garrett with a 4.593 sec lap, a new Can-Am track record for the Tom Thumb King.

Yep, same thing.
Also just read that Jay Kisling passed.

I got the same message, but the video stream continued to work. I exited and reopened the stream about five minutes later with no problem.

Group 2 qualifying is starting.
Raisin Garrett still hangs on to TQ, but there are some seriously fast racers in Can-Am Group 2 and he'll be one lucky guy if that 4.593 sec lap holds up.

We gathered almost everyone together for a group photo before starting the Can-Am mains. This isn't everyone (there's always someone in the restroom...), but it's close. Pretty decent crowd IMO.
