Ah, what is a mini-Arco?

I emailed Bob Rule with your question and here's the answer based on his reply to me.

"When we did the Arco series we had many requests from shops wanting a race and we could not fulfill all them so we set up a Mini-Arco Series.

We provided all the awards and paperwork to hold a race and called it a Mini-Arco. I still have some of the plaques with Mini Arco on them. These races were sponsored by Champion but were run by the local raceways."

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Thanks, Greg!

Michael Rigsby,

Can you tell me about the track in Satellite Beach? Where was it? What was it like"? When did it close?

Chris,

The track in Satellite Beach was a large complex with three tracks, all of them custom-made. One track was a eight-lane road course called "Sebring" and modeled the real Sebring layout. The larger banked track was called Daytona because it had a high bank and dogleg coming out of the bank, and the third track I want to say was similar to an American black. All were eight-lane, and had very good power. We ran a lot of Dynamic chassis stocker races, Jail Door chassis class races, and some really off the wall powered stuff at the time. Thingies were unheard of, and I can remember having a Chaparral 2E in a chassis I built with Mura power having the track record on the Sebring track for a very long time. Mura and Champion rewinds ruled and there were a lot of good racers there.

The track closed up in 1972-ish, much to my surprise as it was the best facility for racing between Stuart and Daytona once the hillclimb in Fort Pierce closed up. I would drive up from Vero Beach every Saturday and Sunday to get my racing fix before I went off to college.

The track was on the Eau Gallie Causeway going towards the beach and I can't remember the name of the road that I had to turn onto to get to the track. The tracks were in a strip mall, and the shop was about half of the strip mall. It was big for the time.

Sorry, that's about all I remember it being forty years ago or better.
