Great buys for someone. If I was not already committed to another King this would have been a really cool find.

Are there really only six existing oranges? I know of three total with one in Wisconsin, one in Wyoming and now this one in Texas.

There's one in North Carolina also. Thunderroad.

The King is now up and running at HMS Speedways, and has been for about two years now.

Somehow I need to figure out how to get the orange from him, so I can redo it.

The Beloit orange may have been in Aurora, IL, at one time.

Would anyone happen to know the footprint on this track? I know there are a lot of people who have knowledge of the track so I'm hoping someone can help. Lonny has it in storage so it isn't possible for him to provide the measurements.

Thanks

Steph,

See this link:

American Model Raceway track diagrams

I know the diagrams don't give footprints, but I think the straight track sections are 8 feet long (can anyone confirm that?) so you should be able to get close with some measurements and a little math.

The AMCR plans I have says the orange is 40'-4" long. 18'-9-1/2" at it's widest, and 11'-5" at the end.

Hope this helps.

I am here in OKC racing at TOP Slots, Dallas and KS.  If there is an orange here in Oklahoma, and anyone is running on

it, it must be top secret and highly classified.  Because I know a dozen or so guys that would race on it.

Just spent 26 minutes on the phone with Lonny.

Basically he said if he can't find the right home for them, they're not going anywhere. He knows the importance and the significance of them. Money is not the object here. He also has a ton of money and time involved in the tracks, especially the restoration of the King. Plus he has tons of time and effort in getting both tracks to his building.

That brings up another page to this story, the building. Lonny owns and runs a body shop. The building that houses his tracks was once one of his body shop buildings but he moved all of his body shop equipment out of this building to make room for not only the AMR tracks but several HO tracks as well. Apparently his body shop business has been going well and he could really use the space for his business. Plus, the building is not air conditioned, so holding Retro races on the King during the summer is pretty much out of the question. I know when my son and I played there three years ago it was QUITE warm in there.

As another side note, there is a very nice original orange track here in Oklahoma that may be coming up for sale. It is in private hands. I'm not at liberty to discuss anything further about that, so please DON'T ASK! I will reveal any details whenever I can. I will say the track is up and running and from what I am told, it is in very nice condition.

Five. Buzzy's in NYC has two.

I own the American king that was at Rt93 raceway in Ohio. It is now set up and running at speedgate, don’t know if your counting that one or not. If I had a place to put that orange I would buy it in a heartbeat and add it to my collection. The orange has sentimental value, brings back childhood memories...

Buzzy only has 1 king. Unless he's hidden a spare down in the basement.

There was a thread recently, that mentioned another King is in his basement, along with the Emperor.

I wondered where that one went. More Gerding than American, IMO.

You guessed it. Sorry, no prize.

This. The thread also mentioned that they might be for sale.

Mike,
Here's a screenshot of that post, that I took in November, when I put it up on FB, for anyone interested.

I'm not sure if the thread was deleted.

I can't find it anywhere.

I'm guessing the King in the basement has the original surface.

IIRC, the one running in the raceway, was retopped, or at least "resurfaced" by Hasse.

So which ones still have the original surface?

None of the Kings currently set up use the original surface. Buzzy's "spare" might be the only one.
