Mixing colors and not over doing it is the key to getting the results you are looking for. Also as a last tip, make sure you thoroughly wipe your pots between colors or you will develop a black almost burnt looking effect.

Pot and strainer from Walmart, I think I paid about $9 total for the pair.

Bob you are welcome to send me parts any time! I did everything above this evening in about 40 minutes for this thread. Once you get the system down it is not hard. The hardest part is not making a mess.

Why is it all clumpy? Never saw that happen before.......

I am going to take a wild guess and say it is starting to gel from the super thick concentrate, extended heat which has caused the H20 to steam evaporate, leaving the sludge behind.

When it cools it mixes right back to dissolved with a quick stir..

Correction above - Not a Champion flag. That is the color I wanted the endbell to come out.

Jairus, didn't you dye orange that kind of endbell for a motor build?

Matt, bring to a bubbling caldron boil - then let cool to 140 and then dunk holding a steady 140 w/ stove on?

Yes. I also want to try the vinegar trick as Jairus had mentioned.

I dyed this Champion endbell after the mounting holes on the original "Orange Picker" became too reamed out.  The color is pretty close to the original.... maybe just a bit too reddish if I were to be picky.

Thanks Matt. !

Jairus, Yes that's the one ... did you use any different procedure with that type of higher heat material. Looks great.

Bob, as I have explained many times before.  Powder Rit dye mixed with a bit more than a cup of water full strength in a small sauce pan with a glug of vinegar brought to a slow boil. No idea of the temp... just don't let the stuff splash on the stove top or you will need acid to clean it.
Then suspend the part in the liquid for 5 to 10 and check.  Never takes longer than that and the part is dyed for all time and the color goes deep.  Takes a lot of wear to reveal any white or pink.
I don't hope to explain the physics behind it or the reason. I just know it works.

The Dye can be stored after cooling and used many times. But it's corrosive so use a glass bottle with a non-metallic cap.

Or toss... cause it's too damn cheap to worry about anyway.

Thanks Jairus, I was wondering if you found and difference in doing the Champ endbell vs. something like a Jet Flag.

Now you know why my gears come out pink. :dash2:  :laugh2:

I found no difference from guide to endbell to gear.  Follow that formula and 10 minutes is all you should need.

I used to make wiring harness in an industrial shop.  Nylon dyes with ease, DELRIN not so easy.  I recall setting the color with cold salt water quench.   Oil can also be infused as a hot dip.(gear tip)    I guess my black dyed flags were not black enough, Bob had to tape them for the drags.

I recall using the salt in tie-dye t-shirts as well.

Yup ... The in-track slot LASER timing LEDs go right through dyed nylon at The Raceway.
