Here we go again? New track in Pinellas has specified sealed 16D motor for 4" flexi NASCAR? D-cans in a flexi is like stepping back in time ten years?
Everybody else in FL is using JK RH...
I am reluctant to post this - not meaning to disrespect, rather I'm trying to help out. Just call me an Outlaw!

Wonder whose "sealed D-Cans" they plan on using? Do you know?

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

PS-2002. RH lasts five races, more if you don't need brakes - weighs less, handles better, faster, cheaper, does not wear tires as fast as 16D. Plus everyone in FL that races 4" NASCAR runs RH.
I'd even run fronts with the RH motor If I had to...

Good news. WTG, Ed.
If everyone has to run them it's all fair.
Charlie... how is it 'cheaper'?
Not everyone in FL runs Hawk Retro motors.

Not everyone in FL runs Hawk Retro motors.
Thanks for correcting, specifically, racing with 4" NASCAR in Florida run either RH or 16d that are NOT sealed...I bet you like that, huh Bob?
PS2002, BFII brushes and light springs and you are more expensive and heavier than a rh. slower too.

There is a 2-3 tenths advantage in favor of the PS2002 over a RH on our hill climb with a flex based car. Nascar or a wing body the results were very similar. Personally I think the 16D has a more linear power curve and drives the flat corners better (better weight placement due to added motor weight??).
I personally enjoy a good 16D class, but understand the limitations/challenges with them as a whole for both beginners and local raceways. I think there are just so many of the mid school racers from the 80's and early 90's that still have them and experience with them that it works in general for say the USRA. After all the racers did win by majority vote to have the motors be unsealed for this year.
At the end of the day I will run whatever, class rules will not change participation for me. What I like racing and what I feel needs to be raced for the betterment of the hobby are considerably different.

Charlie, Was referring to 'me' as a non-hawker. That has been explained.
When Deathstar's fell into a 'black hole' (thanks McDowell) and Puppydog's got pushed 'pushed out' (Thanks BOD) it was Hasta la vista.
I do this for fun .. playing with motors is fun. Soon learned to adapt to tape sealed motors, got a couple of wins and my ego has been satisfactorily stroked. Now I sit on a couple of hundred in motors.
Don't care if the next 'superhawk' is 1 second faster .. I ain't buying in .. I've seen this movie with $5500 crate motors.
No otiscope (also made in china) tune up tool here.
I believe that Deathstars and PS2002 with replaceable brush motors (although slower) is more economical in the long run.
Seeing cars 'roll' to a win with the power off was funny the first time.
So way back to the beginning ... Pittman is the 'new' retro for me and so far except for a complainer or holdout or two .. it is free of politics.
Been there, done that .. the whole flexi scene back in the 80/90s .. track champ BTW
You're a new guy, you're a smart guy, you're a friend .. thinking that when you get over that 'need for speed' (eg. no fronts) you'll see what's going on.

... and BTW I don't feel that the need for speed is a bad thing ... it's the big part of the fun of cars of all sizes and people of all ages.
I had that disease for a very long time. Rehab helped... lol
