Yeah, I understand what you're saying about the front end.  In my case, I saw that Jan used RVM's on his 1972 car and I had some that I wanted to use so I built it that way.

The heat sinks sold by Mid America are described as "Bullit" so I don't think anyone is necessarily repopping them. I wouldn't care anyways, they are very cool. But the copper ones that you have sound very cool.

As an aside, I'm surprised at some of the "older" stuff that I've found just by searching online retailers.  Mid America and NCP hobbies have both been good to me.

I had, maybe still do, 2 pr. of the original RVM fronts. I sleeved them with 1/8" brass tubing so i could use them on 3/32" axles.

I've used both Mid America & NCP in the past without problems. I often thought both had direct lines into REHCO in Cincinnati. I haven't been too sure that NCP was still open even though they still have a web site.

By the way, the Mid-America eBay store occasionally has "Limpach Fresh Cuts" for sale.

I asked Roger who is making them and he said they are NOS still in the original tubes and that they were "correctly stored" (don't know what that means).

I bought some just to have "new" looking tubes in my box (for a psych-out factor, perhaps) but I decided to use one of the sets (3/32 axle black foam rubber .800 dia as they came out of the tube) in a recent NASCAR 16D race here in CO this summer and won the race with 'em, so they are still supple and race-worthy! Whatever he meant by "correctly stored", I think he was right.

I think he has some sets in the original orange colored rubber for those who REALLY want to go retro and "complete" the car!

Keep it in the slot,

AJ

Mike, nice build, even if the parts used (body and motor accessories) are not exactly matching the time period of the earlier chassis design...  :)

The "888" was truly the first volume-production "pro" hand-built chassis. Before Jan began production, everyone was stuck into either building a chassis or begging for a pro to sell him one... eer... just like... today for Retro Racing! :laugh2:

For old times sake, here is an original Limpach pile just our of its 1971 baggie...  :o  :shok: :heat:

I figure I'm good, plus or minus 18 months.

And I really shouldn't let you post in my thread until the book is done.

I acquired my "888" in a pile of brass 'n wire chassis. Didn't know it was there till I rubbed some patina off the drop arm. It is hand engraved though. Not stamped like the one pictured here.

Plan on putting a Mura Green can in it. Have a pair of Elephant Ears and buss bars courtesy of Gator Bob.

Philippe, Would this be korrect?

Sam, if you look on top of the droparm, just in front of the hinge on chassis' the left, you'll find your number. Mine is hand engraved too. Your buss bars & elephant ears would be period correct, as would Mike's heat sinks. The only difference would be that in New England, we ran them on Champion C-cans, but try to find one these days. :dash2:

Paul E., REHCO is a distributor in Cincinnati. They don't sell direct, so you'd have to get a local raceway order what you wanted. I have outdated REHCO parts sheets a former track owner gave me about 2000. PCH has a few REHCO items listed on their web site.

Bill is correct.
Mike, sorry but you will have to wait a bit more, the schedule got interrupted once more and pushed things now beyond Xmas.
The motor's heat sinks are 36 months, and the Champion body you use 5 years, not 18 months apart from the original 888 production, but it matters little and the car came out nicely.
