I"ve seen several drill balanced ones, though the "grind" balance seems much more common.
And all of mine came packaged and I took them out - not bulk. That's out of 50 or so I've bought in the last year.

At BPR this weekend I saw two that were purchased by a racer at PCH Raceway in package from Scott. That's why the ???; was said Scott had quite a few in this shipment but were mixed in.

I am glad that I asked, because this clears up the questions that were floating around Buena Park this Saturday... Now we know that it is all good, and no one can be suspicious...

Everyone jumping around testifying about the type of balancing, but no one saying anything about which method is producing a smoother running motor.
Any results on that front???

It matters little which method is used to take the metal off the stack. It is the human doing the job that matters most.

I think it's too early to tell.

Mike,
Were any of the 99 that were the handouts the drill-balanced version? All three of mine had no balancing which is how I typically have liked them.

What was the preferred method of break-in for the Retro Hawks ran at the Sano, inquiring minds would love to know?

Just went to PCH yesterday to pick up some motors and found that the new batch has drill marks, not grind marks.
The thing I found the most intriguing is that prior to packaging the amature was turned so you can only see the winds and the tips of the stacks on at least 75% of the motors.

I just tried two motors with drill balance holes on the power supply.
One with three holes, total, felt real smooth on start-up, but rattled a bit at speed, like the spacer or bushing wasn't real square.
The other one had one hole and is probably the smoothest Hawk Retro motor I've ever felt on the power supply.
FWIW, I don't race much, so I've only tried maybe 15-20.

Hmmmm.
What is Jerry's vendor doing a mediocre/horrible job of hiding?
All I know is, at the speeds they run, it's amazing the faster FK motors run 10 laps, let alone 340+ in a 24 minute race.
It will be interesting to see how reliable the upcoming Hawk 12 is going to be.
The bubble packaging will probably say "Remove at your own risk".

William Eugene, who exactly are you?
I asked Bryan and he doesn't have a clue.
Does your real name rhyme with Bill Pontoy?
I bet Cheater will be flattered you love him and Slotblog, so much, you would make the effort to post as a fake person.
PS-and the ass clown that posted the below on the SCRRA FB page needs psychiatric care;
What a great loss to the hobby. I knew Dr. Bill well, and we PMed each other often. I just learned of his death recently. Good guy who was a plus for the hobby. He tried to keep folks aware of west coast races on the Blog. Hopefully he catches up with Jay and Sano Dave at the big track in the sky...
What kind of miserable human being would imply William / Mill was the conduit for information to the BP racers, on Slotblog, when Bryan already does a tireless and terrific job, doing just that?
What kind of sick individual would form any kind of connection or comparison
with an imposter, banned from posting, to two disceased racers, one who passed only a week ago?
PSS- Thank you for removing the inappropriate Jay and Sano Dave comment.
