At our club in Kolding, denmark, we have been working on a new track, that is better suited to Classic and retro car than our previous 6-lane high-speed track. Also with (too) few members, 4-lane suits us better.

We began with some sketches made by me on my computer and ended up with this layout:

Ny%252520bane%252520august%2525202015.JP

I even made an 1:10 model to visualize the design:

IMG_8318.JPG

The track was inspired by the Laguna Seca corkscrew as well and my previous club's track in Skalbjerg, which I also helped design.

The Start/Goal straight is 65 cm off the floor and the lowest section is 55-60 cm and the highest just below 100 cm, so there are some drops and twists on the layout. total length approx. 39 meter per lane. Difference between lanes max. 15 cm.

18juni%252520%2525281%252529.jpg

We were lucky to find a workshop out in the city, where we did all the measuring and cutting of the 16mm MDF-boards. And when all section were ready in oct. 2015, we sold the old track and moved all the section to our club room and began assembling. First we did  a total make-over of the room which had got new 3-layer windows earlier in 2015. So everything was newly painted and ready for the track :-)

008.jpg

009.jpg

The track sections were fixed to the floor with screws to facilitate milling the slots.

WP_20151029_019.jpg

We used a hard, but flexible plastic hose, nailed to the sections for guiding the router.

WP_20151029_020.jpg

When the first slot was routed, we placed 3mm plastic strips in the slot and used these to guide the router for the second slot - and so on...

WP_20151119_017.jpg

Then the sections were mounted on the support legs. This took some time as we wanted the flow of the up's and downs as smooth as possible. Some curves were also gently banked.

WP_20151126_011.jpg

The last section was drawn, cut and routed in situ.

All screw holes are filled and awaits sanding

The slots are sealed with MDF-filler. The surface was primed then received 3 coats of semi-gloss water based acrylic paint

cables are connected to the copper tape. we have 8 feeding points on the 39 meter long track.

4 mm tough rubber is cut into 10 cm strips, each 14 m long for the track fencing

Test fit of track "apron"

This is status on Febr. 28th - hopefully we can start testing next week - all lanes has been measured through and the wiring seems to work as planned :-) two weeks ago I ran a 1:24 RC car mounted with a guide on all lanes several times and it went beautifully, although the grip was non-existent. But some Parma glue will correct that in due time.

Our club, KMRC are on Facebook - feel free to follow our progress here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/KMRC1/

The club is situated in a building which hosts a lot of clubs, from Model Trains to Martial Arts etc: https://www.google.d...56aa24a0c5eed44

We are in the club almost every thursday evening from 7-11 PM

Certainly one version of the future of slot car racing. It looks great. What kind of cars, classes, and rules are you running?

A really nice looking track! That should be a lot of fun, and quite challenging, to drive.

Great looking track. The layout will certainly bring out the driver in every racer.

From the looks of the build progress, this wasn't the club member's first rodeo. :good:

Where did the old track go? Another club?

There has been 3 or 4 tracks before this one, but nearly all of our current members are fairly new to the club - and Yes the track was sold to a club in Sjælland (Seeland) also in Denmark :-)

numbered lanes as on our old track - I personally prefer this solution and our chairman is partly colour-blind :-)

White Point is a German manufacturer who produces some very durable nylon/plastic chassis.

005.JPG

We race these with the big 18V Black Carrera motor and repops of Lancer etc. CanAm bodies - not the handling types, but the original scale models of McLaren M1, M6 and M8A, Chaparral 2A and E, Lola T70, Ferrari 350, Porsche 906, Matich, Honker, King Cobra etc.

White Point stopped producing the chassis some years ago so today my 3D printed NWP2 clone is also allowed in the class.

Here is a couple of car with the NWP2 chassis:

more pics of cars - not all cars raced in this class looks like these, but I just love these old CanAm car :-)

Looking good Neils

The detailed dioramas really takes it to another level. This is something missing from most commercial raceways.

Those cars are so beautifully detailed. Must be extra incentive to stay on.

Thanks for posting these pics.

Sam, the diorama is not on the track - its a small one I have at home :-)

there will be no landscaping - at least not in the near future - all our energy is spent at building - now we look forward to  have some great racing :-)

Beautiful job!

How long does the conductive tape last as compared to braid?

Cheers

The last track i helped build was made in 2009 and they are now talking about replacing the tape in some of the corners, and we have racing a lot on this track, so I dont hesitate to recommend copper tape.

However I dont have any hands on experience from building a track with braid.

John, it depends on the classes run, but between 11 and 13 volts, but with 18v for our White Point CanAm and similar cars using Carrera and Bison motors. The track will mostly be used for European type scale model racing and and our (Danish) version of the Retro F1 cars.

Track looks great.

Looks like you guys found some terrific stuff for the wall's.

How stiff is it?

IOW, if you lean on it, does it fold over easy?

Probably not an issue on a 4 lane track, but I was just wondering how suitable it would be for 8 lane tracks where marshals really have to lean across at times to reach cars.
