It's also important to note if you're using Slick 7 bushings the bushing hole in the chassis must be significantly opened up, if not there's no way it will ever be correct. Not an issue if you're using adjustable bushings.


Depends on the chassis, of course.

Chassis are usually stamped flat then the vertical pieces are bent up. That's where most of the inacurracies happen.

I would love to have the PRI tool but did not know you can still get them - so mine is a compromise. 3/32" stainless tig filler wire - pen spring, two small brass tubes with JK 3/32 washers soldered to them and old gear centres on the outside.
 
The issue that I constantly deal with is the alloy gear parts corroding onto the axle (which is why I now use tig wire) and grub screws seizing. No amount of cleaning seems to solve this.
 
I also dunk bearing in paint thinner prior to installation

Despite many people's thinking: a "3/32" axle isn't. It's a #42 (.0935). You can't fit a 3/32" (.09375") axle into a 3/32" (.09375") hole and have it spin free. The drill blank axles generally run a little undersized (drill blanks -.0002 to nominal) that adds a tiny bit more clearance.
