Swiss bracket and horse shoe plate
Hope you get lucky running it. LOL
Super-nice, clean design.
I like the little extensions /pads up front.

Another addict!!! Welcome!!! I have one suggestion--take an old FK motor and attach it to the bracket when you are building at least the center section. This will allow the bracket to sit in the correct position and the motor will not hang down. Have fun!!!

Alright - I have it done. Please pick it apart.
I am allowing the chassis to slide side to side instead of up and down movement. Is this good or bad?

Jeff,
Looks clean!
A suggestions though... brace the bracket. F1s like to get hit pretty hard LOL. As for the movement, it seems like you have shaker pans, with minimal movement... you will like it.

That looks real nice Jeff!! I also suggest bracing the bracket with 2 braces and also I would add a center pan of .063 x 1/2 brass to add some weight. Most F1's run the best at at least 115 grams and the way it sits I am figuring it will come in at around 102 grams RTR.

How thick are the rails? If that's .055 wire, then on a swoopy King like Roger's you may be able to run without the center pan. If you used .062 wire then the car may be a bit loose, especially with the bite bar soldered to the rails. For flat track racing you will definitely need a center pan.
I think the side-to-side movement may be too much, judging from the gaps between the pans and the rails.
But, there's only one way to find out - go race it, then build another, and another, and...
It's fun, glad to see someone else taking the plunge!

My rails are 4 of .062 with about .062 left open on both sides. I am thinking it might be to much, but won't know till I try it.

Eric,
Super-nice job.
I especially like the little strip on each side as real positive pan down-stops.

Work In Progress Can-Am
Got off early today due to sleet... In Charlotte, sleet, snow or ice close everything down... ASAP!!!
8 rails .047
3/4 motor bracket
Coined guide tongue, .825 length
Don't remember whose pieces these are, bought them a year ago.
.062 nose piece, 1" x 3/4"
3.93 WB
Probably be a shaker
May take off some of the most crooked bracing on the motor bracket. Now time to go scrub the acid off of it.
After some comet & brass brush... Now have to let the little battery Dremel charge up again... If I keep this up I guess I will have to get another plug-in unit...
an update on this project; almost made this into a F-1... but decided I needed a 5th can-am instead of a 2nd f-1... Had to re-engineer the front end when the original just wouldn't work
Since I can't bend piano wire very well, especially consistently I use several small pieces with one or 2 bends to take the place of one long piece with lots of bends. Really have to get a Rick's bender to go along with the jig... However contrived looking it ends up looking, I like the way this front end came out. However I should have made the pan assembly first, rather than having to work around the front end as I did on this one...
I can already see that I am going to have to either go with a smaller bite bar, or larger panstop tubing, since the pan vertical movement is uneven. May also bave to shorten the pans by about 1/8" inorder to clear tires; they are so close to rubbing it isn't even funny. Will get a weight on this thing tonight at SCC.
Time to go to the track & play: More to come!
