Some more Revell RTR with aluminum chassis and a lonesome Revell nearly RTR with brass chassis (painting optional).

IMG_8008.JPG . .

The painted RTR shares the same clear plastic box top as Revell's controller, the controller box top suffers a from reaction between the alligator insulators and the top.

Remember seeing that ad ages ago, recall it was a somewhat rough illustration, thinking probably was never made.

Gar-Vic had to try to do something to get rid of all those bodies in stock.

Here is one of the first boxes I found. This one came from my father-in-law's attic and is the early version of the Cuc box with the wide edges.

Here's the magazine ad that Glenn was referring to (great issue by the way). First, the cover:

Here's the ad, and a couple more for Thingies in this issue, the Monogram ad on the facing page. The Firebird kit must not be too common either - anyone got one?

With Philippe's permission, I am going to add some LASCM pictures to illustrate these posts. Plus I just like looking at them.

Wow! Would that Little Red Wagon slot car actually do wheelies?

Must have been leftover stock from end days and he managed to pick up all of it for next to nothing. The '80s were pretty good days for collectors!!!!

M.I.B. slot cars could indeed be had at great prices in the 1980's. Pre-internet though they could seldom be found. The only slot car kits I managed to obtain pre-1992 were two of the 1/24 scale Monogram double vac-formed body kits.

Here are my nominees. First these three from Monogram:

Then these fabulous Cox offerings:

Cox_Cheetah_2(1).jpg Cox_Cheetah(2).jpg

They look fast just sitting there unassembled in the box!

Finally this beauty from K&B Aurora:

All the 1/32 Cheetahs were black as far as I know...

I posted pictures of the 1/32 scale models because they were the first I stumbled upon in my various albums. But the Cox 1/24 scale Ford GTs and Cheetahs are every bit as cool!

Cox_Cheetah_3.jpg

Cox_Cheetah_2_29xKtceAqMrk1cBXnRUiEn.jpg

Sadly I have only the 1/24 Cox Ford GT. The 1/32 Cox Ford GT and both the 1/24 and 1/32 Cheetahs remain near the very top of my slot car kit Most Wanted List which looks something like this right today:

1/24 Monogram '40 Ford Pickup

1/24 Monogram '36 Ford Coupe

1/32 Monogram Ford GT

1/24 Cox Cheetah

1/32 Cox Cheetah

1/32 Cox Ford GT

The problem of course is that the price of these when available runs well beyond pocket change.

:)

Probably because the second slot car I bought, back in 67 was the Dynamic Ferrari kit, but I always like these boxes and art works.

Thought I'd add a few shots to this ongoing thread.

Strombecker Dirt Track Racer; this used the same basic layout as other Strommie kits, but because the parts were in different blisters I thought somebody had opened the box. In fact, because of the outsize wheels, Strombecker had to switch around the contents of the blisters to get it all to fit!

An odd one, from Japanese company Climax. The cover illustration seems to be standard for this series, here a Porsche Carrera.

Climax Porsche Carrera-1.JPG

Climax Porsche Carrera-2.JPG

One of the early RTRs: the Competition Ford GT40, with extra Ferrari P2 body:

Competition Ford GT Ferrari P2-1.jpg

Cox "Ferrari GT", not quite as graphically interesting as the earlier boxes, but still nice.

Cox Ferrari GT-1.JPG

Cox Ferrari GT-2.JPG

And another one from Japan, an Imai Porsche F1. The Japanese boxes generally had very nice graphics, altho not always accurate.

à suivre...

Some more...

An unusual Series 1 K&B Cobra... with a Super Challenger motor!

KB Cobra SuperC box-1.jpg

KB Cobra SuperC box-2.jpg

And the odd K&B Blue Monster, a McLaren-Elva trying to capitalize on the Thingies and Monsters crazes...

KBBlueMonsterbox.jpg

One of my favorites, received as a birthday present for my 13th or 14 birthday, the MPC Lancia-Ferrari, in a "stack box" with four different blister cards, three of them vacform bodies.

MPC Lancia-Ferrari-4.jpg

MPC Lancia-Ferrari-3.jpg

Another unusual one, a Monogram McLaren, but with a pair of AJ's silicones included, and indicated on the box.

A few final ones in 1/24.

Russkit Lola T70 Black Widow 4WD series.

Russkit Lola T70 MIB-1.jpg

Russkit Lola T70 MIB-3.jpg

Here's a more recent one, from the SlotCar Heroes throwback series, this one a GT40 kit I had never heard of. Released mayb 15? years ago, using mostly vacuformed parts.

SlotCarHeroes Ford GT40-1.jpg

SlotCarHeroes Ford GT40-2.jpg

The 1/32 Strombecker Maserati 250F kit; nice but generic graphics, but very bare-bones inside!

Strombecker Maserati kit-1.JPG

Strombecker Maserati kit-2.JPG

Ferrari P2 and King Cobra from Tamiya.

TamiyaFerrariP2andbox.jpg

A fairly scarce Indy Roadster from Tomy, of all people.

Tomy Indy-1.jpg

The unusual and very unsuccessful UHP Mako Shark RTR, using an AMT chassis converted to front-wheel drive. In a basic but nicely done box.

And to round things out, a Unique Chaparral (upgraded version) in a very flimsy window box
