A "tongue-in-cheek" build. (after my Emott build, I could use some levity).  :)

Always start with the body. Here we have a pre-painted yellow ducky.

This is the lightest, smallest, tamest motor I found in my drawers of horrors.  :laugh2:

I have no idea what it is or where I got it, but it looks like a perfect candidate for a play car.

I guess this means I'll actually have to take a bath, rather than a shower. Don't know how long it has been since I've done that... LOL.

Do not worry, the motor will be broken-in beforehand.

Wouldn't want you to electrocute yourself with a slot car.  :laugh2:

Up north here, we race rubber ducks like this one on rivers and streams. The races are usually done to benefit charities.

When I lived in Grants Pass, OR, once a year they would release hundreds of them into the Rogue River from the bridge near the park for rafters, tubers, and swimmers to catch. If I remember right they put money in a lot of them. If they weren't caught they would collect the rest at the salmon ladder down river.

I hope that's a pre-1970 design rubber ducky, otherwise not legal under IRDA (International Rubber Ducky Association rules :)

A few years ago,(back when I was still working and received NASA bulletins),  NASA spotted one of those big inflatable

rubber duckies from one of their geo satellites and couldn't figure out what it was. Looking down directly from above

you can't tell what it is, so there was some excitement that it might be some kind of Russian or Chinese spy ship. I

found that very amusing, because if I was going to make a spy ship, I certainly would not paint it yellow. Better yet

was the posting the next day, which explained what it was. How did they find out? By reading the local newspaper

from the area where the thing was sighted. These type of events always remind me of the old movie, "The Russians

are coming, the Russians are coming!". "Emergency, emergency! Everybody to get from street!".

OK. So charitable groups have races with those plastic duckys. What is the possibility of a charity ducky slot car

proxy proxy race. I nominate Pablo to chair this event. And Cheater to be vice chair. We need some rules, gentlemen.

Let me get this one built first :laugh2:

Went to the refigerator to get a couple donuts and found a pair of new JK IRRA®-type fronts, 3/32" X .750" X .375".

Perfect rears, and I just saved myself some time :D

In Germany we have these charity races with the duckys too (we call them "Quitsche Ente" cause of the sound they make when pressing them).

In my home town the Lions Club does organise the races.

A few years ago, they announced an open class for the following year and I told my club members. We started planing how to build a real fast Ducky with all our slot racing knowledge :D  :tease: .

Unfortunately, the open class never was realized  :nea:.

I'm realy exited about this build, Pablo. Go on!

I never realized how popular duckies are :dance3:

Whatever this motor is, it has good torque and timing. Red wire is positive; rotation is CCW at can end.

With <.750" OD wheels it should pull the 3.5/1 gears no problemo.

WB 3.0", GL 3/8", clearances will be about .020" front and .040" rear.

Found a vintage coined drop arm, shortened it up, and gave it a little tilt with my Tongue Tweaker.

Front axles are .047" wire so they will flex, and can be bent back in a crash.

.063" brass pin tube body mounts are simple and can be bent as needed to fit perfectly.

Little bit of bracing on the BWA clone bracket. Time for a brillo pad cleaning and assembly

Even a ducky deserves good quality wire and a self centering flag.

I found some short lengths of the (now unavailable) Alpha white

All that remains is mounting the ducky body.

Drivetrain test results: slow and smooth :good:

I won't forget ! I hope it's as good as it's quacked up to be.

If it needs more HP, we can swap to a mini brute type motor :aggressive: :)

I went somewhere that had a rubber band once and got bounced out by the prop riator. That might be stretching it a bit. :sarcastic_hand:
If you need a Mini Brute let me know. I'll just put it on the ducks bill. :dash2:

Cheater, your duck is served, Sir :)

IMG_6323.JPG

Body mounting was a challenge, so forgive the rough and excessive trimming.

I hope to find another so I can make it much better.

I added 4 grams of lead up front.

Pin tube mounts are designed to be bendable to fine tune the body stance

Track test this coming Wednesday at Greg Gilbert's track :to_become_senile:
