For anyone interested, here is a small snippet I saved, from the Car Model race:

Another 80 laps of my life found! I remember Tom Baskett but alway thought his name was Phil D Baskett...

What's amazing is Phil Rubin actually finished a race.

PVA was running a Blazer motor. That was a Team Nutley in-house wound Russkit 23.

The first East coast Car model was at Glen Oaks on September 29, 1967; the last in the series was January 20, so some time between them.

I have to laugh. It's true, Phil was always fast but was a little short... on the results.

If there was something to hit, Phil would hit it...

I thought you and Phil always saw eye to eye, Al?

Phil was a great friend. He just had this luck where if someone had a wreck, Phil somehow found a way to be part of it.
He was fast as hell and built some really good chassis...

I know I was never there!!
Now I have to eat my words - I certainly was there but don't remember it. Must have gone there with Sohl and his dad Bill.
Was it an open wheel race?

Not sure. I don't have the Car Model issues it would have been covered in.
I am pretty sure it was Can-Am.

Maybe aliens took us there...
Posted 27 January 2015 - 10:10 AM
They must have erased our memories.

I alway suspected Phill Rubin of being an alien and Sandy with his acute hearing may have been one, too...

The race that everyone was at but no one remembers!

The first race was at Glen Oaks, finishing at Mini Wheels and the Cobra geeks winning all the races.

Alan, sure you did not make the trip in the Dirt Mobile...That would make you not remember your own name.
