I have a lot of building programs going or done. The Group F is the one that uses the chassis that Mike Swiss sells, right? if so I have that chassis done and awaiting a motor depending on what is being run if/when I make it to a track. I thought this posting was about Group F but I do have three JK C43's ready to run in case I make it to a track and IF they are not outlawed.

I've built everything from opens down to jaildoors just for kicks so at times I get mixed up about what class in discussion. I've even wound a lot of armatures but am looking for an epoxy that won't kill me due to an extreme allergy to some of the ingredients.

Bill, can you give me some examples of a step wing body? I last stepped foot in a track in February of 1992 so I'm a bit behind the times.

The Swiss chassis now plated is a good choice for many tracks. However, this chassis at 4.6 length is a bit long for the Gerding BPR track.  Try the Korford Group 12  4.120 length chassis for the PS4002FK motor and the Koford 4.335 length Grp 12 chassis for the new Phoenix motor.  I use GRW bearing in the rear axle and the new Red Fox low cut guide flag.  Bill Taylor gave some good tips earlier in this thread on what bodies to use.

Jesse

From your last post, Tim Wilkens answered the first part and I can't add anything to it. Thank you Tim, hopefully we will see you tomorrow.

The C43 is only a problem if you go to the Nats. I don't think any area or raceway has banned it.

Step wing bodies are the red fox audi and Acura. JK BMW, things like that.

And welcome back to the wars. I don't know where you live, but there is a really nice looking flat track in the Phoenix(ooops, there's that word!!!!) area. If you are, hopefully someone will add to the discussion with contact info for that track

As for me, I still have 1 body to paint and it's an early alarm clock, so good night and good racing to you all and I will see you saturday night

Thanks Tim! yes I live in the west Phoenix metro area. The track you mention is in Apache Junction which is about 70 miles, I'd make the trek if there was a racing program besides drag racing. I'd like to run on tracks like any American tracks or Inglemans. A good flat 8 lane track would be quite acceptable too.

It's good to know my JK chassis are good to go. My Camen & Chicagoland steel cars are all ready complete wit Camen multi mag setups and 27L's. The other classes are represented by my brass & wire chassis.

By the way your website has some weird things happening so I can't see your bodies. I currently have Noose and PA bodies on hand but would like to see your work too.

It was fun to get down to BPR and play with my old wing cars! Turned out all this new bodies and stuff isn't what I needed.  After a bit of testing--I ended up with the identical setups Bill Taylor helped me with 2 years ago!! The FK motor would cruise doing 3.1's--the the Phx would do 2.9's! I know that's not what the top dogs are doing--but both cars were VERY easy to drive--so for my first wing race in two years--I'll just go with that!! Chuck Vaughn was there and his car would only go 2.8's on the same lane as mine--- so I'll just try to keep it in the slot and make laps!!

I'm surprised the Phx motors run pretty HOT with the 13/37 gearing!! Maybe that WILL be the best for long term racing with these motors.  Their still capable of 2.7's with a perfect setup--my curiosity will be how consistent these motors are across the whole field!! That would be great IF they can all run 2.9's -2.7's depending on setup!

.We went up to BPR yesterday to test the new Phoenix motor and one of the things we learned was that on some of the motors, there is an extra bit of plating on the shaft. Test fitting the pinion as always seemed ok, a bit scratchy perhaps, but slid on OK, just a bit of trouble getting the pinion on a pretinned arm shaft. I talked to one of the drag racers and he confirmed they had seen the same problem, not all, just some.

The motors do run a bit warm, but they seem to like that. As we did long runs the motors got faster as the motors heated up and then just ran that speed regardless of how many laps you did. Left us all scratching our heads.

All in all a positive experience in my opinion. Some motors were faster than others, but thats the way it has always been, but most were pretty close i think more depending on car set up to be right at the front

Come on out to the July 1st race and let's see how many of these Phx motors we can get to run well!! And how consistent they are across the whole batch!! Initial testing is promising for a good speed and reliability! I know Craig had one throw a wire--that's the first failure I've heard of at BPR.

I think Craig is sending it back to Roger who said he would replace it.  FWIW

Water break-in should be enough to break in the brushes
Simply green just too much, half the brushes are gone in 15sec 😛

I broke mine in on the track!  It was as fast as anyone's after 50 laps or so.  They seem very consistent so far---it will be interesting to see on the first!

Brushes appear to be oriented the "proper" way! Roger recommends a short break in of 20 minutes @ 4 volts. Works for the guys at Mid-America.

I have a PS FK and a Phoenix motored GrFs ready.

Will we running them together or in separate races?

I set the gear mesh a little tighter on the Phoenix car,

so the torque doesn't rip the gears apart

Had fun at the Wing race yesterday--but threw a wire on a brand new motor before the race.  Had to start with another one and broke it in DURING the race!  Their pretty fast--and fun in Group F for sure!!

Had a Podium in the phx race, but I am sure when the fast guys figure it out, it won't be a common occurrence for me, lol .
Sam had it sorted out and won, and I believe Roy was 2nd.
These motors tend to run faster as they heat up, it reduces the strength of the neo mags so there's more rpm.

I had the same issue with the Phx motor as Tim Neja. Threw a wire. Tom De Avila blew a PHX motor up before race practicing. Then he threw a wire on another one before race. Wow bad luck.

Have 2 other PHX motors ran fine very consistant, no matter how many laps you put on them. Motors run hot. Gear ratio 64p 12 x 34 and 64p 13 x 37. Ran about same times.

It seems these babies are subject to throwing wires at a rate we've never seen before!!!  Maybe that's the weak point for these motors?  Time will tell.
