Very nice John ! With that artifact you're  just recalling early seventies in my area when we are still playing those stoopid ultralight chassis (cucaracha, mini dream). I attempted to soften mura magnet field drilling brass cans....

Ciao Maurizio, and thanks!  Your brass can is something I haven't seen before...although I've wondered why (*with such strong magnets available today) people haven't done cans out of aluminum.   Maybe a project to look into... ;)

That's looking BEAUTIFUL John!! Kinda fun turning out stuff on the lathe huh??  I loved making little parts for my 1/12 scale RC cars when I was racing them.  Just fun making something precision that you can't buy and using it in your rides!!

Hey thanks Tim.  It really is a hoot doing this stuff, and I enjoy just learning a little about these things as I do actually making them :)

Speaking of making things, I decided to do a six-segment-per-side cobalt magnet deal for this guy...but I first had to finish off the last details:

Now she's ready for the magnets.

Magnet assemblies are in and honed.  This bad boy will have to go out for zapping before I build an arm...sorry for the dark picture.

John.... you really have dived deep into the Dark Side! Strap motors with multi-segment magnets and breaking the seals of Retro motors... where's this going to stop??? STAAAHHHHHP IT! Next thing you're going to be doing is analysing tire glue and making a better batch and that's truly a black place to be! :D  :shok:

:)  Funny thing Phil, for as long as I've been doing it...breaking the seals of retro motors is one of the things I find most enjoyable!  I just cant't help myself, being a child of the 1960's (*actually, the 1950's  :shok: ), when it was "run what you brung" and no one cared as long as your car had a body and cleared the track...pretty much. :victory:

As for tire "glue" (*I think it was just called traction compound or something), a lot of people had their own "secret" formulas back then, I suppose mostly being oil of wintergreen and maybe some other stuff mixed-in.  I think it was a little later that STP was the "goop-du-jour", but getting that stuff off your fingers was a PITAIn any case, it didn't have the lovely aroma of wintergreen!

John... I truly appreciate what you're doing... my sister recently told me that when I was about 4 years old that I disassembled a clock and reassembled it... and it worked! I don't remember that but my sister is 6 years older than me... so I'll take her word at it.

There's a machine I'd love to get that's nearby. Years ago I'd jump at it... the machine needs some electronics replaced and I feel up to it but I don't have time for "projects" any longer. It will be a great machine for someone to get working. My only question is why those electronics went bad to begin with.....
