Seems a common reaction to a small problems that don’t go people’s ways.
Should just shrug it off and go ‘bugger!’

I was on the extreme short end of a case like this years ago when I bought a used Jeep, 96k km on, diesel and a badly designed motor, which I only discovered later. It wasn’t the Merc diesel. 13k km later my independent mechanic told me after a service that it had a diesel knock, and that it would leave me car-less at some point. I had the dealer do a compression test before I bought the car (mistake #1, never trust a 2nd hand car dealer, not saying there aren’t honest ones...), results of course looked great.
So the mechanic sent the car for another compression test and one piston didn’t register (<10bar), 1 ok-ish, one very bad and with one they could not get the injector out at all. So this put a large ? over the dealer’s test. Obviously fake... I of course challenged the dealer on this and they just took a stance of - we don’t have control over the diesel quality you buy, one tank with a little water in could have ruined the motor. They had some lame explanation for the rusty injector.
So I decided it prudent to replace the motor. In SA you can’t afford to get stranded roadside, good chance of getting killed. I had a mechanical breakdown insurance policy which pretty much proved worthless. So short story, it cost me $7k, of which insurance paid $200. The dealership had to make a special tool and it took them all up 3days to remove that 4th injector...
It turns out that all those motors come off the line with a built-in diesel knock, they ping around 1700-1900 rpm, where most people drive diesels as they produce most torque there. The brand new motor also had the knock. At higher speeds it gets out of the rpm range.
So lesson #2, buy German or Japanese cars and stick with petrol.
So today, in the interest of not shortening my life, I sometimes just say ‘bugger’

My suggestion would be for the track owner to explain that if there is any warranty it is from the manufacturer not the dealer. Then give the customer all the information he needs to contact said manufacturer and offer to back him up if need be with that manufacturer.
This would make the customer feel the track supports him and if the manufacturer chooses to help said racer or chooses not too the customer will at least feel the track owner had his back.

Proud to drive an American car, from an American manufacturer, assembled by American workers.
I own a car from each of the big three: I have a Ford, a Mercury, and a Lincoln.

Hi guys,
I know we are mainly older gentlemen here, probably with traditional views, but I think we need to take the modern approach and ask whether Mark is OK. Are there any of Mark's mates here that can drop by for a face to face chat?
regards

Except for a few, its is done hoss. You ask 20 people on the street what a slotcar is and the answer would be.....................................silence.

Rugby
It’s like NFL, without the armour, time-outs or throwing
Just 80minutes of running, tackling and repeat...on real grass.

I had not seen this thread before. I think I understand the issue. A guy buys a motor not knowing how long it will last. It goes up in smoke very early. That's one end of the "Bell Curve" - the unlucky end. He feels humiliated - on a certain level.
I remember having a Hawk 7 motor still in the package in my box and the track owner did not have any on the pegboard. One of the top racers needed a new motor (did not have any and expected the track owner to have them when he got there, I guess).
I offered him my motor in the package thinking it may or may not be a "good one" and just asked that he replace it with a new one in the package when the track owner gets more in. It's always a roll of the dice with cheap motors ...
He puts it in his car with no break-in at all and joins the race. He fell about 5 laps back during the first heat while it was breaking in, about 3 more during the next heat, kept pace during the third and started putting two laps on the field each heat thereafter.
He beat me by a lap at the end with the fastest car (by far) on the track. That is a different kind of humiliation at the other end of the "Bell Curve". That's part of the fun of cheap motors.
Still, I would do it again for another racer - just never again for THAT racer! Yeah, I would probably do it for that guy, too. It's all about the fun. Nice guys don't finish last - they just finish a gratingly humiliated second.

Sorry about the nerf. "Sorry? Sorry? There's no apologizing in slot car racing!"
Besides, where would I even begin? I should probably start with my wife ...
"I don't often get very many "fast laps" but I very often get many laps quickly." ™
The only thing I know about slot cars is if I had a good time when I leave the building! I can count the times I didn't on one two three hands!
