I think he means one of these.

Without a groove, in the brass, I don't think you'll get a very sharp bend.

This is a Harbor Freight hand held brake for duct work in the hvac trade, note the 3 1/2 wide jaws. I've used it for bending lexan spoilers for D 3 cars ect.35708a921d7ef36290bd65cf05fdc963.jpg

The  hand held units are also sold in home centers for use when screening doors & windows.. The jaws are screw replaceable & come in several different widths.

I tried it around 1986 or 87.

To get it out on the track, a particular Saturday, I put on the solid mounts.(5-10 years, before they got popular)

I honestly don't remember how it ran, but probably bad, because I wasn't inspired enough to try it again, with floating mounts.

The car I really need to try again, is the carbon chassis, with the aluminum internal spine.

I ran it in a 27 race, on a medium swoopy Ogilvie, won easily, but a few days later, in a real scientific test, on the Koford factory Ogilvie King, it seemed  2-3 hundredths slower than a comparable aluminum car, which was a bit lighter.

I should of narrowed the rails to get the weight comparable, but  despite telling Stu it was intended as a hobby project, he wasn't real excited about me developing a car, that was something we couldn't sell to the public, because of the complexity of building it.

Much longer that the one above it but some of the others look closer. the extended front adds to the long look.

Any trouble getting a body to cover it?

I don't remember a problem, but it was 30+ years ago.

An old trick for forming square bends:

Scribe the bend line

Mark and drill 2 holes. as far apart as possible, on the scribed line.  The diameter is not important but must be 2X the diameter of available rod stock -e.g. 1/8" holes, 1/16" rod

Insert rods and clamp part in vise with rods restyle firmly on top of jaws

Bend - the bend will be centered on the scribed line
