While the motor still could go either as either road or drag at this stage Pablo, I've settled on the drag thing...so it WILL be warm.  :D

close...84.  It'll be up to the racer to figure out how to convert all this into low ETs while minimizing wheel-spin and/or wheelies.

Being scared is the way to go, if you ain't on the edge then you gots no edge.

Must have perused that phrase in a book somewhere in the distant past.

Still, a 53 could keep you warm on those long winter nights to come...

It's been a while since I've done a #23 wire armature, but few people are interested in them, and I don't wind these things for wall decorations :)  Even back in the big-wire glory days, it's my understanding that not many were used.  I've had a one pound spool of #23 for many years and still probably have enough for an arm or two.  It mostly sits there, while all the other wire gauges get used all the time.

23 wire doesn't serve much of a purpose anymore in slot racing.

Maybe in drags, with a funny car, but that is probably about 1% of drag racing.

We used 53's to race, on real low power, but you had to be concerned with braid lasting a heat.

It was the qualifying arm of choice in the mid 90's, but with .459's, with it being packed tight, it was prone to lead to expanding lams, which required regrinding, which would result in a thinner crown, in spots, which as you would suspect, then expand even easier.

Plus some racers couldn't even figure out how to take off on the straightway without welding their braid.

We eventually came up with .459 75's, and just ran them with high time endbells and 38T spurs.

That then progressed to .480 64's, again with the high time endbells, and 38's.

Those produced fast qualifying laps without the reliability and braid issues, the high amp drawing, "3 wire" had.

With today being assembly day over here, as a bunch of arms came back from grind/balance, I just wanted to add that these are awfully nice magnets.  It's like the 16D motor has a whole new reason for existing!  ;)  I haven't heard anything about polyneos "softening" with running heat, so I think these will be just fine in road racers, but in this #24 wire drag motor they're a home run!  Cheers to Pro Slot for bringing these to market.

This is great to hear.

Ive just ordered a set of these to go into an FT-16D im rebuilding, going by what im reading here, I should be OK with a large air gap with the standard mabuchi armature?

What winds would you recommend going with these magnets?
