Mark,

Back in the good old days, lead wires were small and thin, and prone to break. We used multiple lead wires for redundancy. If you broke a lead wire, the car could still finish the race.

There was also some theories that the motors were drawing more amperage than the little wires could supply, so multiple lead wires were used for that as well, since heavier wires were too stiff.

Okay, that certainly makes sense. I guess I just never noticed it before....

But, true, I hadn't noticed the 2 lead wires on one side/3 on another - Rick?

Its 3 and 3. Look just ahead of the front axle. You can see 3 on each side there. One wire is just hidden going back to the motor.

The over-spray is all cleaned up and black detail painting is done. Now I'm just waiting for that slow drying enamel to fully harden all the way through before I start taping detail pieces to the inside of the body.

Man, that's a whole lot of yellow.

I hope the jazzy colored interior, engine and exhaust detail, super cool wheels and Pattos Place decals spice it up............

Rick, it looks like a painted body that came from the Lancer factory. I have a yellow Lancer-painted Porsche 906 & it looked similar to how yours does when I bought it in 1967 or 68. It's a whole lot of yellow! :)  :)

Here's a problem with the VERY low body. The cockpit sits very far back over the inline motor. Even with Lancer's super low profile driver figure, the drivers head sits high up in the wind and looks goofy:

King Cobra (78).JPG

I corrected for that with this style interior. It has a raised section that fits over the top of the motor:

King Cobra (68).JPG

Now the driver is sitting about where he belongs...........

..............but then the driver is forced so far forward there is a space between the bodies cockpit opening and the interior piece.  :wacko2:

So........I made a filler piece of .010" clear plastic and painted it yellow:

Here's the result:

And the finished car:

Looks pretty swoopy on the track too:

Another beautiful car Rick. :) Would an FK can have eliminated the interference between inline motors & interiors for low bodies? Yes, I know they're not vintage & don't come in various colors, but if they fit...

Well, you could just cut a hole in the body to provide the needed clearance. That's a vintage fix.  :laugh2:  I first started racing sardine cans in 1998 or 99. So to me , they are vintage. I recall giving away the first one I ever had, a Plafit Cheetah, after a special race, because I thought "I'll never need that thing again."   :laugh2:  :laugh2: Since then, they have virtually killed of motor building in the lower slot car classes. They're here to stay, like it or not.
