Time to hang the jumbo bat pans.
I made mine out of 1/32" sheet instead of the 1/64" that Rubin used so I had to bend a little kink into the pan hinges. Here's my setup:
An aluminum block acts as a forward stop to align the pans. The long clamp holds the pans in place and the shorter clamp presses the center section down on the jig.
Here's the mess after all the soldering:
A little "rub a dub dub" and she's all prettied up:
Pan down stops are next........

Would not look out of place hanging on your Christmas tree. Jewelry.
I tried many different period bodes on mine and many fit perfect. What did you end up with as a total width on this one.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for a power plant. I am in motor mode at this time and want to be period correct for early 1968.

I made this chassis 3" wide as it seemed best for the body I'm using.
I show the motor in post #18 but I see that Photobucket is down again. I've been using Slotblog to host my pictures in the last few threads but the motor pics are from an earlier thread. Photobucket seems to always have some problems.

Mine too is 3'' wide there is room to narrow it, but once I tried a few bodies with straight sides, I thought better of that scary mod.
I will look for the appropriate motor, Malachi can ? and wait till the P. bucket is full again.

Look through your Model Racing Journal DVD and see the motors often used in the pre-angle winder era.
The first generation Mura "unmeltable" end bell shows up in the first angle winder race. The Mura 2-hole motor seems to have come in shortly after that race.

Took time to lay out my old MRJ racing news papers late last knight. Boy was 1968 a pivotal year.

Martin I thought you got the MCJ and MRJ DVDs from SteveO? Handling the fragile originals can be scary!

Yes I do, but where did I put that? Its harder to loose a stack of 1'X2' news papers, and it makes me feel like I am there.

The finished chassis:
I will have to re-post my motor pictures since Photobucket seems down for the count. I've probably lost a hundred build threads. Thanks Photobucket.

Rick, that chassis came out looking as beautiful as your other works. I like how you did the pan springs.
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

Looks great, as we have come to expect. Nice job.
That Photo bucket problem is a drag as I refer to builds here all the time. A lot of the pics are gone. never did understand the advantage of PB. Will they ever be returned.
I do have some of your pics I saved from years ago if that would help?
e.g.
GP Honda angle winder
4WD Russkit Iso
1967? inline Lotus 40

Photobucket will supposedly be back online one of these days - they're actually communicating, which is a nice change. There was a big power outage at their central server farm and they're trying to save all photos.
A lot of us used photobucket because at the time you had to have a third party hoster for photos; most forums didn't allow direct uploads. And Pb was free and seemed to be the best one around...
I've kept my account because I probably have a thousand photos on there, and when I want to upload a photo to a new thread, it's still pretty easy - but last year's debacle was a good lesson!
Rick, another beautiful build, and probably one I'll copy one of these days...
thanks,
Don

Thanks Kim. If you search for an "adjustable angle v block" on eBay they pop up for $20 and up.
Here are the goodies for the build. Weldun 31T crown gear (so far I'm going with a modern JK steel 7T pinion), Mura axle with flats and BOCA modern ball bearings without shields:
Up front is a Cox quick change guide and Phase III braid:

Régis I bought this one as it was cheap.https://www.ebay.com...872.m2749.l2649
Its smaller than the one Rick shows, but I felt it will do this job fine. The bigger one is 3 times the price.
If you can wait? mine will be here any time now. I will let you know if it works well enough.

Salut Régis,
Moi aussi... I bought one of those as well, and am now waiting for it.
Of course, I don't have a real drill press either, so I'm kind of in the market for one - hopefully a small model for a small Parisian apartment... I did get a used hobby type drill press a few years ago, but it's not always very practical.
