Very nice vacuum form body. Is it based on the AUTOart 1:18th scale Black Beauty model (scale model of the #2 original vintage car) scaled down to slot size?

P.S. the Black Beauty full size car you show is not one of the original 2 built for the show by Dean Jeffries  but a modern replica.

BZ Black Beauty Green Hornet

This body mold I worked on\off for a few months.

This version has nice panel outlines, some mods at the trunk area and added the front headlights  I think it looks neat if painted translucent green like the photo along with new front grills like the photo.

I think I will use a Classic Manta Ray chassis setup with some better looking wheels since I have nothing BZ.

Maybe I can find a repro BZ box to complete the project.

regards gene

Hello, Nice vacuum form Black Beauty. Was that based on the AUTOart 1:18th scale model (modeled from the real #2 vintage car) scaled down to slot car size? and that full size car photo shown is actually a modern replica  and not one of the two original Dean Jeffries Studios designed and built cars for the tv show. Thanks

John,
as far as I can see, it is based on back pouring an original or a replica of the BZ 1/24 scale "Black Beauty". A nice job, as many back poured copies are generally rather poor.

There are several steps that go into making a good mold.   First the final mold must be based on the inside of the body, not the outside.    First step is to pour silicone inside the original body.   Next use that to make an outside mold...Next use that outer mold for your initial vacuum buck.   Now you have a starting point.    If there is more detail needed  it is added now, lines and panel outlines re-scribed.   Then this might work, but Gene uses a special material that is ot plastic resin.   If needed he makes a second mold.   it's a lot different than  quick over pour like a lot of guys have used to  copy vintage bodies.

Gene may add some more info.   His work is what an artist  does.

I pulled the trigger on a BIN lot on eBay. This had a bad picture attached and looked pretty scruffy. With a light clean and polish, I think it was worth the risk. No splits, no cuts, nice decals and it looks to me to be correct right down to the Magoo's tires. Did I do OK?

You did great but these always came with "white-line" tires, so start hunting for a set. :)
