Do any of you out there have pictures you can share with the rest of the blog about dynamic cars?

I'm really tired and I have to go to bed before I turn into a pumpkin.

By the way I tried turning a 4.7 today but the damn car deslotted and hit the wall then I couldn't get it in the groove again. I'm thinking I have to do a complete teardown and try something else.

Car specs were as follows:

Harvey Aluminum Special
Brass Dynamic Body mounts
Droop-snoot front end
Pittcan 6001BB RMM and Motor
Parma rental car rears and I forget the fronts
Controller is my DR-30 :)

To get this going I think I would need a better gear ratio. Right now it is geared 10/33 (3.3) and this caused it to do alligator bites. I have a spare 12-tooth pinion so I think I could do 12/31 (2.5) and I think this would work??? Any Advice?

My Vision of My Dream Vintage Dynamic Slot Car:

Check out this picture:

MikesCars.JPG

You see off to the left is a Russkit 34 NIP sitting on top of a dynamic rolling frame ready for that russkit motor. Also my bandit is in the lower middle. A car with a hemi is in the middle center. Off to the right is my KELLISON!!!! that needs some work. This picture was taken at Dom's on July 12th, 2008.

Anyway, Dream car....

Tom Anderson Russkit ISO Griffo body done up like this: Iso Griffo
(Got the body I just can't paint worth a darn)
Russkit 34 motor as pictured (I LOVE adjustable timing)
Rolling Frame as pictured (you should see the wheels on this thing, they are gorgeous)
Gotta figure out a guide flag, I used the nylon K&B one that came with the rolling chassis already and fugged it up good
Can one of you recommend a gear ratio? I like 10/35 but I know the "34" is torque-y so I want to tame it a bit. Maybe have the ratio be around 2.8? Whatchu guys think?

Gosh, I spent about 45 minutes typing this post and I'm still NOT a pumpkin! Interesting! :D

- Love to hear from ya...

Mike,

For some reason, I was under the impression you were using a Russkit 22 motor. The 6001 has quite a bit of power for a light weight car.

A major portion of the handling will be determined by the guide flag adjustment. Greg details this in his Tome here. http://www.irraslotr...g.com/id26.html

I never used a Pittman 6001 but we usually geared our 26D motors 8/29 with 15/16ths tires for a 240 foot Engleman that had 2 long straights. With some testing by themselves, a person can hear a motor that has "topped out" on a straight, the sound just goes "flat". Motor heat becomes a factor but generally the higher the gear the faster a car will be as long as the motor isn't bogged. A car that is "pulling" out of a corner just handles better.

We nearly always used a 6 gram brass weight on the guide flag. The Dynamic frames generally really like front end weight. If the tilting or nosing-out can be cured the car is so much easier to drive. It's usually a combination of guide angle and depth, nose weight, and front tire height if they are touching, and rear tire grip.

Mike,
Dump the hinge and use a solid tongue. Use a Dynaflex front end and a solid axle. Adjust the guide in relation the the front wheels. Then your car will be able to "punch the banking". :)

You can only do the best you can do and if you fail you must take stock of what happens and grow from there.

Feels like a good day to work on this Russkit 34...

Mike,

During practice, an experienced racer can make many changes to a car in an hour and only needs 5 laps or so to test a change.

We're just waitin'... :)

Okie dokie, gentlemen! :)

As indicated in another thread, you know that I LOVE FT36/FT36D.

FT36, in either formats, is a blessing. I like the number 36 for a host of reasons that I needn't bore you with. With that in mind:

I tested out one of my cars that has been on the shelf for a while (the blue Kellison). This car is powered by a 36 can-side drive (some people refer to it as REB for reverse endbell) motor which is green, which I've found may be a Ranalli? Hrm, we needn't bother with the semantics.

ThisbBlue Kellison was driven on the Challenger track and I was getting lap times between 4.7 and 6.4. I found that once I hit between 5.4 and 5.8, I was "in the groove." Now mind you, it wasn't racing pretty, it was a little loud due to improper gear mesh (which is on my behalf, mind you) but it still stayed on and did exactly what I wanted it to do: stay in the groove and turn laps.

I also have to say that while I was very tempted to work on the "34" car tonight, it stayed in the box and is a work in progress. I am very interested in getting this Kellison working terrific as our club is calling the Kellison the "Cheetah Killer."

I do feel another car is in the works but that is mostly due to my amassment of all things vintage slot car-related.

And how do I fell at the end of the day, as the clock gets close to striking midnight? I feel great, natural, myself, not wanting to turn into a pumpkin... hungry, relieved, terrific... I could go on and on but tonight was just great and I really mean that.

Now, as Andy Rooney said, "Patience is a virtue. Impatience is also a virtue." I can wait until next Friday to see how the Kellison runs and I have plenty of time to build. What I don't have is time and space to paint, but we'll work on that one thing at a time, slowly but surely.

I also joined Team Krash tonight! :)

How was your evening, fellas?

... My main source of contempt for FK motors is that all of the ones I've tried have BLOWN UP after less than two races on American Hillclimbs, which equates to about 500 laps give or take, if you add practice time.

It does seem to be a roll of the dice. I just replaced a Little Ripper in a Retro hardbody 1/24 Talbot after six years and countless races. Performance was a little better than the Falcon something I replaced it with.

On the other hand, I recently took two D3 cars out for a test with brand new Falcon 7 motors in them and one only made it around three laps!

Same weekend the Little Ripper died after six years, I had a Falcon die in another car. Both happened during testing the day before a race. I blame Karma more than the motors.

Regards,

Stephen Corneille

Can someone please repost the FK motor specifications including the M3 and M6 Hawks. It appears the old links are dead. Thanks.

Form-fit or can sizes can be found in the Mabuchi tech files: www.mabuchi-motor.com.

FK-130 is the length and bearing fit for Falcon, TSR, Hawk, Slick 7, Plafit, and several homeset motors.

FC-130 is the length and bearing fit for Pro Slot 4000 series, and many homeset motors from Ninco, Slot.it, etc

130 is the length and 180 is another common length. Armature wind, brush material, and hole patterns are all subject to each factory tooling.

And the currently available Falcon 7 motors are exactly the same as they always have been, so no argument there.

Is the Falcon7 in consideration as a legal retro motor?

I stand corrected Kevin. With the popularity and all the stink about the RH I was thinking IRRA had eliminated all other motors but I see that is not the case.

When was the last time anyone tried running a F7?

I DO believe that both the TSR D3 and the Falcon 7 are not available through normal channels as production of the motors has ceased and far as I'm aware, no future production runs are planned.  If there are ANY still available, PM me... I'll buy some !
