Videos coming soon on our Facebook and web page...  Meanwhile here are some close shot of some of Floyd's entries:

Express, very pretty and quick, it wheelied several times during it's run.  Uses spring tension on the drop arm.  Very period correct, but maybe too much tension.  Still, it made a very quick, if scary pass:

The “Thing” at the Proxy:

Thing1.jpg
The Floyd Hornbacker’s “Thing”,  entered in the Nostalgia Padlock Rod class is certainly interesting and intimidating!  We love the way the heart of a 1960’s  “padlock” motor and custom fabbed parts were integrated into the frame.
On its first run At 24 Volts, “Thing” never hooked up, running a screaming but disappointing 2.0668 ET @ 21.5 MPH.  The pit crew volunteered to run it again with heavier glue on the tires.  Better… but we can't tell you how fast it was.  At the 660 Mark is was 1.0064 and still spun tires the whole strip, but it flew over the timing sensors at the finish line. We were tempted o run it on the sticky lane to get traction, but with no Pit Crew instruction from Floyd and already flying over the line we took the safer route of adding weight in the nose. But “Things” super torque just ripped the teeth off the Cox gear so no time again.  In retrospect, the weight probably would not have helped, we think the problem is that the tires grew at the top end, effectively raising the wheelie bars and letting the nose come up. The authentic 1960’s era tires with their period-correct epoxy “beadlock” are cool, but we wonder if coating the entire sidewall of the tire with epoxy might reduce tire expansion??   Something to try next year...
