So, a car from Tom Katsanis arrived early, and we offered to test run it for him. Here is how it went:
We Did test passes exactly as all entires willbe run on race day in June. Car is safe and ready for return shipping as Tom wants to use it for events before it returns in June. We will pay the return shipping a credit his entry fee due to the reschedule.
The car arrived with strange windshield damage, Did Tom drop his soldering iron on it? We are sure it did not occur in shipping and it was present as we unwrapped it, but there was a liitle angst about it here. Otherwise, the body is fun!
Having read Toms posts about Dragnoda I was surprized to see the name assigned to this car... we called it Slimer.
Before the first pass, we noticed the wheelie bars were set really high and so we expected arcing and hopping. Since Tom paid for pit crew, but gave no particular instruction, we elected to reset the wheelie bars before a first run raher than risk jumping out of the slot. We reset the wheelie bar wheels at the recommended .03" off the surface with the car on a block with .03 braid recess.
We were surpized that on it's first run the car ran intermittently. An inspection with the body off showed that the guide was quite loose and that the long braid clips shorted to the chassis. No damage, so we added a spacer to the top of the chassis so the guide nut could be tightened and it ran well for two more passes.
Second run was much better. We then added a bit of weight to the nose which did not improve smoothness or time. Tom shipped his car with3eh wheels strapped to ablock so maybe is tires were slighlty out of true. Slimer posted its best times on the seond pass.
Here is "Slimers" best times. Not bad for a Nostalgia Can Rod. Think you can do better? Build an dsend one!
Slimer is going back to Australia so Tom can tune the car further if he likes and we look forward to seeing it and other entries in June 2021.
