It seems the articles on winding armatures are from 2009, 2013. I just purchased a legank armature winder, of course with no instructions. Without getting incredibly technical, and with blatant disregard to what size armature or wire, anyone have copies of the instructions either from lagank, simco, or anyone else?

For instance, the instructions I have for a legank kit say to wind it clockwise. Well if you're using a winder you would have to turn the winder counterclockwise to wind wire clockwise?
If you're doing a double wind, do you
A) boath at the same time
B) 1 layer at a time
C) inside then outside, or visa virsa

http://slotblog.net/...ganke-rewinder/

You might also look at http://slotblog.net/...ndingrewinding/

in the first thread there's a pic of the instructions. Some of the folks on that thread are still active here on slotblog.

John H has taken his online stuff to FB, and does a lot of posting here, https://www.facebook...438086923073404, if that floats your boat.

Winding arms is above my tolerance level and/or pay grade.

Mark. the Simco instructions are on here someplace. You should look through John Havlicek's two big rewinding threads on here too. Both have a ton of information in them. If you're a Facebook member, that's his home now & you could directly ask him questions there. I have a Laganke winder from Jim Allen (scratchbuilt.com), but haven't used it yet. Maybe double 30 ga.some day.

I've seen one. The Windsor was the rental track at Modelvlle back in the 70s. Look through the photos & videos of Buzzie's. The small track with the yellow sidewalls is a Windsor. I don't know if Rick B. (RGEO) owns a Windsor or any other track. He hasn't owned a raceway for a few years.

Mark, you start out with fewer poles & work up to five. Just like starting with Velcro shoes before you wear tie-up ones. :laugh2:

Thanks Bill. I thought Velcro was only for people who can't mount bodies with pins. There using it on shoes now hu? What will they think of next?

Evidently all armatures are not created equal. The LaGank came with a red (36-D) and a blue (26-D). I thought it was f*"d up when I was having difficulty fitting a arm in the red one. Turned out NOT to be a 36-D but either a ingashi hemi or a Dyno can. Chances are it's a hemi. So I ask you this: did they make holders for these (2) two species of motors and others like Kemtron,Ram, etc.?
BillNH, now about that Velcro .........

On my old phone I had compiled a list of armature winds. I'm going to have to get someone to retrieve that information. To track down the info again will take me decades maybe light-years. Ok, hours & days. Before I forget or loose it I'll post 2
G12 60/30
G27 **/27
It didn't take long to forget the 27 wind. Was it 27/27 ?
Anyone?
Hopefully with some input I can compile a list so everyone can reference it.
Another thing, with a double wind do you divide the turns by 2? Makes sense. But what about two different wire sizes?
Finally, here is the formula I've had since 74. 1st wire size + 2ond wire size = x devided by 2 = xx -3 = equlivent wire size.
Please feel free to comment , elaborate or, disagree.

Do a Google search on "Armature Wind Specs" & see if you find anything. At one time, Ron Thornton (Zippity) from New Zealand had such a chart he maintained.

Group 7 & 1/24 eurosports run open class arms with no restrictons regarding length or diameter. It's obvious that not all lengths & diameters run as well as some others.

NCC22 has the same specs as NCC20. The 22s are hand wound, the 20s are machine wound.

Grp. 40 was an obtuse class that never caught on. I never had one or knew the specs. Some place on here is a thread on Grp. 40. Maybe it has the specs. Search on "Group 40 arms" or "Camen Group 40 arms."
