The photo in one of the Auto World catalogs turned (lol) out to be a great help. I was going to crank it southpaw and ,guide the wire with my right. That would mean I'd have to turn it counter clockwise. Confusing?
It's ironic, the General vise in the photo was a gift when I was 5 or 6. It came with rubber covers (😂) for the jaws. Still have it. That should make it easier to use the LeGank.

I got a blue General Vac-Vise I must have had for 45-50 yrs. The rubber jaw covers hardened & split apart 15-20 years ago. At that time, I was able to find replacements at Micro Mark in NJ. They may still have them, if needed.

Winding an arm is not that hard. You should just go for it. If it doesn't go well the first time, unwind the arm and start over. Each time you wind the arm you'll get better at it. Practice makes perfect.

My first and only attempt at rewinding 60 turns of #30 on a Russkit 22 arm.
Lessons learned check the wire before you start. My high school teacher gave me magnet wire with no insulation.
The only way that thing turned over was by hand.

I found that ,
1 is from another blogger ,
1) it needs a break
2) it needs a counter
3) a lighted magnifyier is a must.(except for eagle eye BilNH)
4) a wire holder & tensioner is a must. How many of us have had to rewind the wire on the spool?
5) my hands are more beat up than I thought.

One question, I just purchased a Mura c-can with green wire. The first motor I bought was a Mura wasp with green wire. Is this the only motor (Mura) to use green wire ?

YOU NEED A LIGHTED MAGNIFYING GLASS!!!!!!! To do this remotely close to right.

If for no other reason, everyone should try this just to appreciate what effort goes into doing this by the people who CAN do this.
Everyone can do this, Mark. In the late '60s I rewound a Champion 517 arm that I had blown the com up when I was about 14 years old. It ran slow and burned up after about 2 laps but it did at least run.
Since then all I've wound is 2 RC car motors back in the late '80s. One of those was a rocket.
I really think the biggest challenge is getting the timing right on the comm and soldering the comm. The winding part isn't that hard if you keep count of the winds and take your time.
