Has anyone tried rubbing a copper pipe on the rails to reduce prep time between race days on a plastic track?

No I haven't. At least not yet. I was hoping someone else may have and I wouldn't need to potentially sacrifice a piece of track. It looks like I won't have a choice.

If anybody knows about copper on plastic track rails it is Jim Rumph. He just texted me that even though Aurora years ago recommended it (using pennies) as a way to maintain rails it does not work. Use the ultra fine foam block. In our club he has learned to bring the correct cleaning supplies to our races. I wouldn't argue with him.
btw Don't use a belt sander.

Crocus cloth & fine grit Wet-N-Dry sandpaper on a soft backing (such as Duck Tape) ought to work too.
