[Slot Car Rod]

This time, Ernie sent me one of his Cheetah bodies. The low and wide body looks very cool. The body also came with paint masks. 

 

The Cheetah body wheelbase is fairly short. I started on a Dynamic Bandit project years ago and never found a body for it. The short chassis fits the Cheetah body perfectly. I added the American Line brass pan to the chassis. The motor used is a Dynamic rewound 26D. I think the wheels are Dynamic. Rear tires are treated rubber.

 

Eric asked me how to do a fog paint job from spray cans. I decided to paint the Cheetah with a fog paint job.  The edges of the body were first fogged with black paint. Then red paint was added and was later backed up with white paint. All paints are Tamiya PS.

 

Thanks for the Cheetah body, Ernie. Time for a track test.

Nice job Rod, as usual! I always thought the Renegade was a bit Cheetah-like, so that makes sense using a Dynamic chassis. 

 

Your comment on the wheelbase got me thinking. I checked my Cox Cheetah, and the wheelbase is a bit over 3-3/4", so not all that short for the period, except that we've gotten used to 4" wheelbases. But both nose and tail on the Cheetah are really short, so that makes the car shorter overall. 

 

Offhand, I'd guess you need a bit more weight - maybe a lot - but the track test will tell.

It reminds me of  the Dynamic Renegade. Thats the Swinger front end BTW, a rare item.

Had to look up my own Dynamic Renegade chassis to remind me why it was different than the Swinger - long tongue, but still integral front axle holder!

The Swinger is the shortest of all the integral front axle holders and has the Dyna-flex design too. 

 

FYI...

These are the factory cars that have a built in front axle mount. (DF) denotes Dyna flex.

Ferrari P4 (DF) this one I am not 100 percent sure about, it may have come with bolt on and or one piece axle mount. There is one boxed at the LASCM to be confirmed at some point.

I had seen enough evidence for me that I built mine with the built in axle mount, which happens to be the same part as used on the Super Bandit.

 

Just to add, the Calex 2F also use's the built in front axle mount, non Dyna flex.

hi Everyone, I have been away for several years getting various health issues taken care including "C". I say this as I may have forgotten my being trained not to take over the thread, please forgive me if I do tis.

 

Imaging my surprise to see the almost identical car I put together to be run at a 24 hour enduro held at G&L raceway in the way back days. I recruited a friend that used to be the fastest guy at Kapps Raceway, Jay Jett. Jay was one of the best motor guys in the Arizona scene in the 06's, the rules had a two motor restriction so we each built a 26D to run for horsepower.

 

we faced one team with one of those guys that quietly wins races without anyone noticing, Jerry Finley. Jerry had built a brass rod inline powered by Cobra 27's. The word around Phoenix of the slaughter that Jay and I faced at the hands of a great team and a car that looked like it was built by Mike Steube.

 

as the power came on with a full track on power supply all eight cars were experiencing amp sucking that left all the guys with big wire crying. Jerry's Cobras didnt suffer as bad but our 29 gauge 26D just out horsed everyone. Jay's 29 ran flawlessly for roughly half the race until it ate the motor brushes. My 28 gauge 26D fitte with arco mag went in and continued the battle with the Cobra 27's.

 

a the very end Jay and I were down two laps after 24 hours. I would assure anyone that the car above would be competitive in any sort of 60's style open race.

 

If I broke the rules please be patient with me while I relearn the ropes.
