The AWRA "Legacy" class is fast becoming one of the most popular in Womp racing (full rules available on the AWRA website).

 

The Legacy class is intended to be a throwback to the early days of Womp, much as Retro racing is to 1/24 commercial racing.

 

There has been some discussion that I have been a part of to change the motor currently used in the Legacy class to the venerable Parma 501 (Deathstar 16D sealed), which, as I recall, was the most often included motor in Womp RTRs.

We have the opportunity to throw back to the "original" motor now because the Parma 501s are readily available after years of being out of stock.

 

I'd like to see a demonstration race sometime in the near future to test this idea. I might even be willing to help with sponsorship if the race is held.

I only do a bit of womp racing these days, but my biggest concern with this proposal would be tampering with the motors to enhance performance. As we all know, the seal only keeps honest people out.

The same could be said about the F-can motors; you can buy a tool to open them.

IMO, more power doesn't help the Legacy WOMPS. I haven't done a side by side, but I'd have to believe that a 501 equipped WOMP would be better mannered and therefore turn faster lap times than a WOMP with a 25K motor.
