"It is with great sadness that Edsel and I share with you all that Joe 'Noose' Neumeister, our beloved friend and Mr. Retro East, has passed. Joe is at peace now after a long bout with health issues. Our prayers are with Linda and his family. RIP, good friend and fellow racer.

IRRA Retro racing owes a debt to Noose that can never be repaid. He was one of the five founding members and was for almost two decades the "hardest working person in Retro."

He cannot be replaced, only substituted for. I'm gonna miss him, as I loved him like a brother, meaning I often wanted to strangle him. LOL.

 

Without Noose's involvement at numerous levels, 1/24 Retro racing would not be what it is today.

Joe's obituary:
 

 
"Joseph E. Neumeister passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on November 13, 2025.
 
Born and raised in Newark, NJ, to James and Evelyn (Kauffman) Neumeister, Joseph spent his early years in Irvington and Springfield. In 2000 at his 30th high school reunion, he reconnected with an old friend who would later become his wife and life partner, where they built the best blended family together in the Cedar Lake section of Denville, NJ, where he made his home for the past 21 years.
 
Joseph attended art school, nurturing the creativity that would stay with him throughout his life. He worked at Exxon in Linden, NJ, before serving for many years as vice president of Linden Bulk Trucking, where he built lasting friendships and earned the respect of all who knew him. Joe was a coach and a proud father of Indian Princesses. A man of many passions, Joseph found joy on the golf course and was a proud member of both the Basking Ridge and Fiddler's Elbow Country Clubs. He also had a lifelong love of slot car racing, designing, painting, and bringing cars to life with an artist's touch. Known affectionately as 'Noose' within the East Coast Retro Racing Club he helped create, he brought warmth, humor, and creativity to the community he cherished. Joseph was also a devoted NY Yankees fan and a lover of Jimmy Buffett, happily visiting numerous Margaritaville locations over the years.
 
Joseph leaves behind his beloved wife of 21 years, Linda (Hencoski) Neumeister of Denville, NJ; his loving daughter, Kristy, and her husband Matt Steiner of Manhattan, NY; his stepson Justin and his wife Danielle Bradford and his cherished granddaughter, Freya Bradford of Rockaway, NJ; and his stepdaughter Lindsey and her wife Danielle Bradford of Norwood, NJ; He held each of them close to his heart.
 
Family and friends are invited to gather for a memorial visitation on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ 07834. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 PM at the funeral home.
 
Joseph will be remembered for his creativity, his zest for life and the love and kindness he shared so generously with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

As a kid at Glen Oaks you could always pick out Joe. He was the only nicely dressed one. Nice Italian knit sweater and slacks that was Joe !..............................Marty P

An extordinary talent for painting slot car bodies, this was one of my favorites. Representing Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax. I only met Noose a few times, but always enjoyed his thorough race reports. His organizational skills were top notch that revitalized Retro East racing. 

 

My prayers go out to his family. "The Lord is near to the broken-hearted and comforts those who are crushed in spirit". Ps.34:18.

During one of our many conversations about a year ago, Noose offered me a unique car that he had. It was a 1/32 Can-Am car that Tony P had built, and of course Joe painted the body. We agreed on a price and he sent it to me.

 

Qhen I opened the box there was also a coupe body painted in traditional Noose colours. I was tickled to get both at the time, and I’m especially honoured to own them now.

 

Rest in eternal peace, my friend.

Joe was one of the founding fathers of the IRRA and it would not be where it is now without his tireless hard work for 17+ years.  And of course slot car racing has lost a master car body painter.

 

Although Joe and I often had disagreements on slot car topics, I always respected his opinions and considered him a friend, and I will greatly miss seeing him at the races.

 

I'm sure that the other slot car racers that have preceded him to the eternal slot car raceway will find him at the tech table "doing his thing."
