I have no details of any kind, but it seems well-known Florida slot racer Donny 'Shrek' Caron has passed away.
Donny was a one-of-a-kind personality and universally liked.

Report is that Donny collapsed and died while going to bed. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.

That's a shock. Donny was always as helpful as could be and a friend to all. He will be missed by all that knew him.

I met him when he came to RetroPalooza, liked him, he was certainly a character.

What a shock to lose Donny at such a young age. He was quite the character and you knew when he was in the house, especially when his car was a rider!.
He will be greatly missed by all of the Gator Region Retro racers.

I think I first met Donny about 10 years ago when he moved to Florida and started racing with the GRRR group. At first Tony P and I were not sure what to make of Shrek. He was a character for sure, but he had a big heart and was dedicated to slot car racing. Tony and I recognized his passion early on and we created the first GRRR "Rookie of the Year" award for Donny in 2018.
For the past years when I have been able to attend a race I always looked forward to seeing Shrek and the camaraderie that would ensue. To say I am going to miss him is an understatement.
I went through my photos and created this album of him. If you have any you want to add, please feel free to do so.

Grant, I didn't know Donny, but in a few photos was Ray Lee of Mass, who winters in FL. I first raced wing cars against Ray in the '70s.
