For my next race in Bordeaux in 2026, the theme of which is Ferrari until 1972, I decided to build my car at 1/24.

 

In 2015, I had already built a Ferrari 612 CAN-AM for Bordeaux, but during testing, because of its weight, I burned its engine forcing me to use another car.

 

I have understood the lesson well, I am going to go light and use a more resistant engine.

 

So I decided to make a 312 PB, less imposing than a CAN-AM, but also not too complicated for me.

 

The body will be made of wood, samba and 1mm plywood and the chassis, in brass or aluminum.

 

I'm not going to detail the bodywork too much, just enough to make it a nice slot car.

Back on the Ferrari 312 PB, a project which must be completed for the race on June 6.

 

The bodywork is well advanced, there are still finishing details to be completed.

 

To accommodate the PITTMAN 6001 engine, I lengthened the bodywork by 4mm.

 

A specialist will notice it in the lines of the engine compartment, but overall, it's not too far from the scale 1 car.

 

Concerning the chassis and the obligation to build light, I used aluminum.

 

And it turns out to be the right choice, because during testing on the club's winding track, I found the car quite pleasant, and it is lighter than the 612 Can Am.

The Pittman 6001 can be a strong performer and should run forever. Your car is looking great.

I'll try to get a better photo later today. The sound of the 333 going from the 90 up the essence at the Glen was unforgettable. I can only describe it as angry prehistoric bees

I've finally finished my Ferrari 312 PB; it's about time, the race is this weekend in Bordeaux.

 

It's in its 1971 Brands Hatch 1000km test configuration, with Jacky Ickx at the wheel.

 

It's hard to recognize the wooden bodywork after painting.

 

As every year, before the race weekend, I did some final testing on the club track.

 

It's OK, but we'll really see how it performs on the wooden track in Bordeaux.

Wow, what a phenomenal job youve done on that car.
Will it survive if it turns into a runner on another lane?
Also, can you tell us how you prepared the wood for paint, and what products you used, including the paint and clear?

Obviously, I'm going to try not to break this car, there are hours of work.

 

In the event of going off the track, it has the same chances as a Revell or Monogram with a plastic body.

 

For painting this wooden body, I first used Tamiya primer with sanding between coats.

 

No filler

 

And then I applied a coat of paint and a coat of two-component varnish using an airbrush.

A look back at the race weekend in Bordeaux

 

I did not use this Ferrari 312P because I was unable to get this car to run properly.

 

It's my chassis which is to blame, it behaves badly on this wooden track,

 

 After a few shocks during testing, I decided to use another car, a Ferrari 250 SWB, with which I placed in tenth position out of 49 runners.

 

 So I'm going to make another chassis.
