Hi!

 

I am a new user here.

Now I look for a controller for brushless motors.

I want to ask you about what controller do you use with brushless motors now? And why?

I currently use the midamerica electric controller for brushless. It does everything I need but does not have a choke.

I currently have a few S&K v3 controllers, proparts, Carsteen 4.2, Difalco 281 and a Dubick Fanat pro.

I like the S&K controllers, they have lots of options for chips.  I put a 1ohm rheostat on one for more adjustment for some of the faster brushless motors.

This is my primary controller. Hard to get at times and a bit pricier and depending on area, may be hard to service. (from Ukraine I believe)

 

The Proparts is a solid controller. Not built as well as the others but lots of adjustments and holds up to any of my brushless motors. Good price point.

The Carsteen is a great controller.  I have had many and enjoyed them all.  It does not have as much brake adjustment for some of the higher end motors.

I am not sure who services them anymore and they can be a bit pricey.

Difalco is probably my favorite all around controller.  the 281 is a fantastic controller but may not hold up to some of the faster motors for eurosport type racing.

Anything else and it is incredible.  Best service when needed and out of Florida I belive.

 

The Dubick I have never been able to get the controller to work well with brushless.  The switch for the anti brake/normal/off kept failing.

Has a great feel, well built but the brake circuit does not work well with brushless.  It does however work very well with brushed cars.

I believe this controller comes from Russia.

 

I know Micek and newer Kobis controllers work very well if you can get your hands on one.  The older Kobis controllers seem to need a jumper for the brakes to work.

 

I have never run any 3d eye but I know a few guys that run and like them for brushless.

The ESPEED332 DIY controller has been shown to work well, as it has an adjustable PWM frequency to help tune performance with brushless motor controllers. There's enough info to make your own, but most of us (like me) just buy it from someone who makes them. Currently, you can get them direct from a maker in Europe, but I believe that maker is trying to get a bunch into a shop in the states.

Czech Pro1, Pro 2 and Pro 3 all work fine. So does the Kobis - I think the Kobis issue with brushless used to be that the thermal fuse in the brake circuit sometimes popped with high kV motors.  Easily solved by doubling up the fuse.

My experience with brushless is relatively limited, mostly with the Mid America stuff, so some of the other replies are probably more useful, but-

 

What's ideal might depend on whether you're doing flat track or banked track racing. I've used Difalco, Ruddock, and controllers I've built myself, that have worked well, both on our local banked tracks and flat track. I don't remember the details, since it's been a while, but I think my son's Third Eye Hitman didn't seem to work as well, but I'll defer to others who have more experience.

 

Based on my personal experience, controllers using BJT transistors (Difalco, Ruddock, Mid America) should work fine, at least.

I'm also new here and although I don't have a brushless car yet, I'm in the market for a new controller. I currently have a Slot.It SCP-2 that I use at the local track, and it's blown the fuse 2x so far. I'm really interested in the Difalco Genesis 3 HD30 but can't find any information on it. All I find is the Genesis 2 HD30. I would also be into getting the Micek Pro but it seems like overkill for the price.

Correct, there are NO Genesis 3 models. PCH must have picked up the small lettering on the heatsink circuit board that says RPM3 which just means it is the third version of that particular circuit board and not the entire controller.

I just got myself a mid America 1350A controller for use on my brushless cars.

 

Did a bit of searching there is not much out there but from what i did find it should be great for them.

 

Will find out in a few weeks when i can get to my local track and try it out.

 

Was using an older difalco with actual resisters soldered on the board from the 2008-2010 era.

 

While that control works great for the 20D motor i have it isn't the best for the brushless cars.

Tried out the mid america 1350A on the weekend.

 

With my 3000kv gemini flexi it went awesome and i am still dialing it in for the car and getting used to the controller and i have already dropped my lap times 0.3.

 

I have a 6500kv gemini flexi also, i didn't get to use this one on track though.

 

Over all i am very happy with the controller, the USB lead could be a tad longer and there is no hooks to hang the control box, but there is 2 holes for ones to be added to it. That is my next mission to find something for that job.
