[Slot Car Rod]

Victor was kind enough to send me another MESAC car to restore.  This endurance class MESAC Porsche 917 short tail was built and raced by MESAC member Lee Stokley.  

 

The body had the cracks repaired and one fender uncurled.  The body once had a full width rear spoiler.  Residual rubber glue for the spoiler remains.  We do not know what size the spoiler was, so no spoiler has been added yet.  The other Porsches of this type in Victor's collection did not have rear spoilers.  

 

I mocked up a Mura A-can and an early Mura C-can motor to try in the chassis.  The C-can motor fit perfectly.  The chassis was mildly cleaned.  The C-can motor was assembled with Champion blue dot magnets and shims, and an NCC 20 armature.  Russkit wheels were used along with Russkit front tires and modern natural rubber rear tires (7/8" diameter fronts and rears).  Wheel inserts are Russkit.  The battery holders and the light wiring were repaired.

 

The car drives great with neutral handling.  The motor is very strong and has great brakes.  You barely notice the extra mass from the batteries.  The natural rubber tires work great with no track glue.  I do not know how long the tires will last before drying out.  Thanks, Victor.

Ps: what with are you running the tyers at? I've been fighting with this for months now 🙄 on the 312 Ferrari from Victor. The 7/8" od doesn't work for this body, especially in the front.

Mark, I have not worked on a 312 from Victor.  If 7/8" front and rear does not work, try 3/4" fronts and 7/8" rears.

I've been working on a simpler version of the bazillion hinged silver porsche chassis that I posted a video of. I don't have available the w&d of the tyers that I found work for this. They are ProSlot gold anodized.

Mark, I have not worked on a 312 from Victor.  If 7/8" front and rear does not work, try 3/4" fronts and 7/8" rears.

Mark, I used 7/8" rears and smaller fronts, as Rodney suggests above, to match the staggered wheel and tire sizes on the real car:

 

 

Even more important, the rear tires must be INSIDE the bodywork or you'll really have to butcher up the body:

Thanks Rodney, it's one of my favorite builds too. And please thank Victor for me. Working with a real MESAC body was the most fun I've had building a car I can remember!
