Hi everyone!

As an old racer, I got into slot car racing just after the era of the Cox La Cucaracha slot car. I never got to drive one but did see one run on our local track.

So after many years of hunting for the right car, I am now the proud owner of one of the orange 1/24 Cox La Cucaracha race cars. I am working to restore to it's original glory but need an original Cox 3600 16D motor for the car. I prefer one that runs, not concerned about performance but not really wanting to rebuild unless required.

 

I would greatly appreciate any assistance and am located in Centralia, Illinois.

You might want to attend one of the many "Slot car Swaps that happen regularly. The Midwest Swap is March and November just off I-80 and I-41  in Norther Indiana. I am sure St Louis or Indianapolis has one as well.

 

If you have a good can and endbell, current Parma 16D arms should work if the setup in your car is can end drive.

Thanks Larry, I am attending the St. Louis show tomorrow. I have working motors, I just would like to get the car as original looking as possible and the Cox motor has some unique features. The current motor is black can with black endbell and most of the La Cucaracha's I have seen as "original" were all silver can with white endbell and slats in the can to secure the magnets. The car is can end drive.

Thanks Thom, I am still looking but the motor is a 16D with can drive. Silver can with white endbell usually but some with a black endbell. The can would have the two depressions holding in the magnets similar to the one in your picture but in 16D size.

I think the Cox Mabuchi 16D was a chrome can with a white endbell & the Cox 'NASCAR' motors had a chrome can with a black endbell. The Cucaracha I bought in '67 came with the white endbell motor. I recall disassembling it & replacing the magnets & arm with French aftermarket parts. I later replaced this motor with a Champion 507.
