I have been tuning these two Mustangs that I built a few years ago. I want to improve the drivability and handling.
Car number 31 is modeled after a Trans Am (T/A) Mustang that was driven by Ronnie Buckman and others. This Mustang has a Cox chassis and a Cox Super NASCAR motor. The car felt a bit tippy in the turns, so I added a couple of brass weights mounted low, and lead weight was added to the drop arm. The rear tires are urethane and supply good bite.
The other Mustang is a fantasy build. This car has a little Ken Block Hoonicorn and current race car style. It has a Plafit chassis and a Hawk 7 motor. The car was originally built with Scaleauto red-line sponge rear tires, and an optional set of urethane rear tires. The urethane tires did not work at all, and the car would hop with them. The Scaleauto tires worked great when new, but they dried out quickly, even when stored in an airtight container. New H&R natural rubber tires and slightly smaller diameter wheels are now on the car. Also, lead weight was added to the front of the chassis.
Time for a track test for both cars.
