Can-Am on the King – 5/12/26
The Can-Am class headed back to the King this week in the MVH Tuesday Night Retro Series. Eleven drivers showed up, just shy of what we’d need to run all eight lanes. Thus, racing was an eleven-heat round robin affair on the middle six lanes, but to add some spice to the mix the heats were four minutes long, bringing the total race time to twenty four minutes, the same as if we had run all eight lanes. Everyone agreed, four minutes is a long heat!

John Weaver decided to come out of retirement for a night and he, Noah Ball, and Rob “Pedro Podium” Hayes were all turning fast laps and looking like they would populate the podium. Ray Lee, Bob Blanchette and Dave Panich were in a relatively close race to see who would finish fourth while Peter Lentros and John Mills were fighting it out for seventh place.
As occasionally happens, here was some mid-race stoppage as Noah needed a break for a new crown gear, Bob broke a guide and had to pit for a replacement and, late in the race, Weaver spun his pinion gear requiring a visit to the soldering station. But we persevered.
By the time the checkered flag was shown, Weaver had built a seven-lap margin as he coasted to victory over Noah. Pedro (aka Rob) comfortably completed the podium, four laps behind Noah and five laps up on fourth-place finisher Dave. Ray closed a five-lap gap down to just under two laps in the final heat as Dave couldn’t negotiate the finger, while Bob had to settle for sixth, four laps behind Ray. The battle between Peter and John went Pete’s way while Rolly got the better of Richard to take ninth by seven laps. Steven Sacchetti was having some handling problems and dropped out during his fourth heat.
Weaver posted the fastest lap of the night with a 3.839 on orange while Noah had the only other sub-4 second time with a 3.908.
