Coupes on the Figure 8 – 5/26/26
The MVH Tuesday Night Retro series headed to the Figure 8 to run GT Coupes on the Figure 8 this week. Eleven racers went to tech with the race run on the middle six lanes over eleven heats with five marshals available to work the corners.
Eleven Coupes in Tech:
Noah Ball took the first heat with a sixty-lap total, followed by John Weaver at 56 as it looked like together they would dominate the rest of the field. However, six laps into the second head, Weaver dropped out, leaving the bottom two steps of the podium up for grabs as Noah cruised to the win. Bob “Woody” Hazelwood and Dave Panich both posted identical fast-lap times but Dave had better luck getting around some of the chaos and claimed second place by a fourteen-lap margin over Woody in third.
Richard Payne was the “best of the rest”, taking fourth place by two laps over Nick Ball, while Rolly Lapierre Jr. finished sixth. Joe Yates was next in seventh, three laps ahead of Dan Savage.
Noah and Weaver had identical 2.906 times to tie for fastest lap time of the night while the second fastest times of Dave and Woody were also identical, though a tenth slower, at 3.015. And, in a rare occurrence, Joe and ninth place finisher Steven Sacchetti also posted another pair of identical times. The orange lane was the quick way around the Figure 8, with the top six finishers and a total of seven drivers posting their best times there.
