Stock Cars on the Royal – 6/2/26
This week the MVH Tuesday Night Retro Series headed to the American Royal to run Stock Cars. An even dozen racers ran the middle six lanes with five marshals and a race director, all over twelve heats.
Stock Cars in Tech:
Ray Lee had the fastest car on the track. So fast, in fact, that early in the race a track call was necessary to lower the breakout time as he was running in the 3.8s, below the NERR Stock Car track record on the Royal. Rob “Pedro Podium’ Hayes was a tenth slower, but still in the sub-4 second zone. And, as it turned out, the rest of the field didn’t have a chance as Ray and Rob ran away with the race, with Rob finishing in second, five laps back.
The closest race of the night was for the bottom podium step with Noah Ball and Bob “Woody” Hazelwood lapping in the 4.0s while Dave Panich was in the mix a 4.101. When time ran out, Noah edged Dave for third place by a long lap as Woody encountered all manner of obstacles, both stationary and moving, and settled for fifth. Richard Payne led the remainder of the field in sixth, eleven laps behind Woody but just two ahead of Joe Yates.
The next four drivers were separated by single digit lap counts with Steven Sacchetti taking eighth, John Mills in ninth, Peter Lentros in tenth and Rolly Lapierre Jr. in eleventh. Larry Labounty encountered early gear problems (caused by a tire that wouldn’t stay tightened) and even after a stop to replace his gear was unable to recover.
